My Cornish Break

Have just returned home from a few days in beautiful Cornwall. The weather was very kind to us, we had sunshine every day, even though sometimes it was a little slow appearing in the mornings. I have tried to put together a few pictures – the first pictures are of Padstow harbour, and the Rick Stein Restaurant. We didnt eat there, but had one of his pasties from his pie shop. The one I had was filled with Smoked Haddock and clotted cream ! I think there was some leek in there as well, and it was delicious. I am definitely going to have a go at making that. Then we went to St.Mawgan Japanese Garden. This was a little neglected we felt, but still very interesting. Finally we visited Boscastle, so a lovely little break. Hope you enjoy
the pictures.
This I thought was a clever use of Wellies !

Thanks for your comments Rogi, I'm pleased that my photos have brought back such lovely memories for you. I would have liked to have spent longer there than we did, but I really enjoyed my visit.

Thank you Joanella, it was lovely.
Shirley I wished we had room in the car, but there were 4 of us, so it was impossible. They were so reasonable pricewise.

I got really confused then ... there must have been Acers for sale there ?
23 Oct, 2010
Oh sorry, yes there were, and they had reduced the prices ! Gorgeous colours.

You should have sent 2 of the passengers back by train and put the plants on the back seat ! Love the wellie display too, very unique. : o ))

Bjs thank you. I love it down there too. We actually stayed at a little village called St.Minver. Lovely old pub for meals and a quaint church with a spire that leans.

It's nice to view your photo memories and to see Boscastle pretty much recovered from the flooding that hit there just a few short years ago.
Someone was very creative with the wellies...lol Quite amusing and eye-catching.
It will have been nice time to visit Cornwall as I suppose the tourist season has pretty much passed now...it looked as if all the boats in Padstow harbour are covered over for winter. Thanks for sharing with us, Cinders.

Thank you Dotty, glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks Whistonlass. Yes looking at Boscastle now its difficult to imagine what happened there. We visited late afternoon and there were not many people about. We enjoy an October holiday for that reason,

I`m so glad you had a lovely holiday Cinders. I haven`t been to Cornwall for many years myself but a friend visited Padstow and Boscastle earlier in the year and had a wonderful time there too. I love the photos, especially of the Acers in their autumn clothes. :o)

Thanks Labdancer, the acers were lovely, but so were all the trees everywhere, all changing colour along our route.

Thanks Cinderella for the lovely photos. Sad to hear that the Bonsai garden in St Mawes was looking neglected - it used to be one of my favourite places to visit (one of our sons lives in Falmouth). I bought a bonsai Copper Beech in a blue dish there about 12 years ago, and it's still alive!

Hi Sheilabub, I think the Bonsai garden will probably improve again once the owners wife is back on board, it is quite spiritual there isnt it.

Sounds good Bampy. Is that all the ingredients, or do you add a little onion. I might try it. I made the smoked haddock one yesterday and it was scrummy.

Fantastic photos of Padstow. I was there with my family last year.My grandparents came from there and my parents retired there in the 1970´s, so we always had somewhere to go on holiday. My parents are buried not far away at Trelill...the other side of Wadebridge, so that is another reason that we go there every few years. When my dad retired he worked part time at the sports shop on the harbour...in the first photo...the one with the blue notice boards on it and also on one of the car parks on the harbour...I could go on and on about my Padstow memories.
