Garden changes

Some of you may remember that last autumn I had a large fir tree removed, that was growing along the fence line. Well not a lot was done to the space through the winter, but in the last few weeks a change has taken place and a new fence panel was made to fit the space. The old pergola that was in the lower garden and close to this area had a table and chairs fixed in the corner, but this wasnt used much, so I decided to take the old table and chairs part out, and shorten one of the sides. My friend brought in his power washer and cleaned it all off to the bare wood, and I then (when it was dry) proceeded to paint it all green, which was not easy as I had to climb on a stool and bend in all directions to get at the different sides of the overhead trellis part. Now the little corner garden has been dug over (where the tree was), and I have planted up my new rose and Clematis, which I hope will climb up over the trellis.
A few pictures to show the progress..

Well done Cinders, it has completely transformed that corner for you, I have some old conifers down my garden near my bottom pond, they are stopping too much light from that area but so far I haven`t plucked up the courage to remove them (sigh)

Well, I must say most of the hard work was done for me, Lincslass, I am very lucky that I have a lovely friend who is so willing to help out on these jobs. Without him I would never have got that done. But it has let in so much light, and looks much neater now.
Thanks Paul, its been a long time coming !!

Thank you Sticki for your lovely comments. Perhaps I will sit out more when the weather gets better,
Thanks Yorks, it definitely seems more roomy, and I can move the little table out and put my loungers in there now if I want to.

thinking of lying down on the job now, you won't get any gardening done whilst sunning yourself, Lol

Lovely before & after pics, Cinders, and the garden looks lovely now. I imagine painting all that trellis was a very fiddly job? The new Clem and Rose are a pretty good height already. : o )

It looks fabulous, what a cosy little corner it has turned into, great blog well done, like the pictures before and after.

Thanks Shirley, actually I dont think you can see the rose yet, it is only about six inches high, but what you can probably see is a pot with Hosta that is stood on there at the moment, and all the other pots are only temporary, but if I dont put something there the next door cat uses it. I have some more Heuchera on order that will be going round the front. The rose is growing well, it is a pink Gertrude Jekyll given me for my birthday.

What a difference, you have made an excellent job, will be even better when the plants are covering the trellis, well done Cinders.

Thank you Oliveoil, I am quite pleased with how it has turned out. The right side of the garden will be dug up and replanted when flowering has finished.
Thank you Dd, glad you like it. Will soon be coming to see yours now.

What a lovely corner you've created, so much prettier than that boring conifer. Sometimes it takes a lot of imagination and courage to change things so radically. I bet you're glad you took the plunge! Well done. :o)

Thanks Lily, yes I am so glad that I found someone willing to take it down for me. Its so much lighter now.
13 Apr, 2011
Oops, should have gone to Specsavers! I don't believe you've ordered more Heuchera ... lol! The pink rose will look lovely before too long. : o )

what a difference cinders, i love it, a nice seating place now and once you have your climbers established will be even better ;o))
13 Apr, 2011
Shirley, the Heuchera I want is a light green. I have one in the other bed and it lights up the corner so I thought it would be nice to have one there as well, so there is some colour for the winter to look out on. But I have loads of baby Heuchera in other colours.
Thanks San, I have a place for one the other side of the arbor/pergola. I'm quite excited about getting it all sorted for the summer.

Goodness Cinders....it's all looking so spruced up and inviting. I can understand why you'd want to be rid of the old tree and what a transformation.
I'm sure you'll find the space much more practical for relaxing after working in the garden or doing your other chores around the house. Now all we need is some lovely sunshine and warm weather. I've put my order in....how about you?
Enjoy your "new" space :)
