Came today from Ebay, dont know much about them, and dont know if it as been grown indoors or outside, no instructions with it so i’ve planted it

and kept the cover on it that it came wrapped in and stacked it.

Then put fleece round it as the nights here are still very frosty, and although the sunshines in the day i think its still very cold.

Sensible to be careful, Clarice.
As you say, you don't know where it has been growing.

Think it should be warm there as its quite a sheltered spot aswell, i know they are native to Australia, may need a Korla bear to go with it..

any news on our plants yet carol?

I would be quite careful with a Eucalypt - they grow really REALLLY big and they wrap roots round pipes. The leaves also change if you dont prune them every year.

Leaves have a nice greyish green colour with a lovely eucalyptus scent.

Lovely tree Clarice but dont plant to near the house or any other building, as the roots get into the footings and cause all sorts of damage., and yes they grow very big in a very short time. Enjoy :0)))))))))

Was it a bare rooted plant, or a potted plant Clarice? The Eucalyptus
do like Acid soil, and like full sun. They grow very tall and spindly, but
can be kept as a nice shrub if pruned each year . I have 1 in a large pot
took all the lower branches of the bottom, so i keep it as a globe tree.
Anyway, Clarice good luck with your tree.........: -))))

Clarice, I had two Eucalyptus Gunni in a previous garden, and kept one as a pollarded tree about 7 feet tall and the other I cut right down every Spring which kept it as a lovely shrub with juvenile leaves. I did once try one in a large pot, but it hated it and looked sicker and sicker.
I don't think the roots will be a problem so long as you prune it every year, as normally the roots below ground match the growth above.
I found it to be very hardy, even in cold easterly winds on the coast. Good luck with your's.

I know of a couple of these trees here & they can grow to be much higher than your house, though not mine as I live in a 6/7 storey block of flats! (But on the ground floor!) One I've passed many times has some lovely little flowers at the end of the year, though they are only visible if you are only a metre or so away from them otherwise they are quite invisible. This particular tree must be all of 50 years old though. Their juvenile foliage is quite nice & nothing like any other tree in this country & probably in Europe.

Cheers Balcony, keeping it in a pot, put it in a big one as they grow very quick.

Hi Carol, once they get going they're as tough as old boots and can reach 75ft in height with a 30ft spread ! I had one in a garden border years ago and cut it down to the ground every spring, it would then grow at least 6ft with big, beautiful, circular juvenile leaves. I would then put the prunings through the shredder and throw them onto a bark path - the smell was wonderful !
Eventually I had to dig it up to make way for a kitchen extension and on my sandy soil the roots had run about 15ft. :-))

At the moment its in a small pot inside the big one thought all i have to do is lift the pot out and then straight in the big pot, keeping it in a pot and thing it will be easy to keep under control.

Don't forget to pick a leaf off now and again and crush it in your hand for that wonderful smell. Enjoy :-))
