End of Year Woodland

Like the garden, the woodland is pretty dormant but the sun came out today so I took a few photos.

I love those pretty little cyclamen! I think their leaves are as pretty as the flowers. Even in autumn there's wonder in the forest... and the lonesome as the sound of the wind soughing through bare branches. We've had snow...but not a great deal.. just enough to help protect some of the smaller shrubs. It's been minus 20's here for the last four days...and six more days of it to come...then the temps will soar to the single digits minuses and it's not yet January. The Farmer's Almanac has forecast a very cold winter.

Any kind of woodland is so helpful to people if they would only go walking in them for an hour. Cares slip away.
There are woodlands all around, just need looking for.
Thank you for the lovely photographs.

Thanks Dawn for braving the cold for us - it was certainly lovely to see the sun! Hope you saw the programme about Judi Dench and her woodland? It was charming and inspirational :)

Thanks Diane.
Yes Sheila, I did watch the programme, fascinating wasn't it. So every inch of an oak's circumference equals 1 year in age, wow

I love your woodland. I missed the Judi Dench programme and I was so looking forward to it too.

Thanks Seaburn, it's nice seeing change through the seasons. I got the programme on catch up, it was good.

Have to confess I have hugged the occasional tree in our garden! Worry about them when the wind is strong as we lost out lovely willow unexpectedly

Your cyclamen are so pretty!

Eirlys, trees are very special aren't they, I worry when it's windy too.

I would get very carried away with trees given half a chance! Lovely Dawn. And they are even nicer in winter when you can see their structure.

I know, they are addictive. The plan originally was to plant all natives in the woodland, get them thinned out and introduce specials (Robert at Bluebell's advice) but the years go by and I don't think it will happen now (a) the ornamental trees are so expensive and I haven't really got enough years left in me to see them reach maturity, maudling i know but it's a fact. 7 years ago when I bought Ornamental trees for the new garden they were something like £29.99 plus delivery now they are £45.

You’re right Dawn...so much pricier now.

So lovely, you are a lucky lady to have enough land to be able to do these trees justice......
