I'm not watching it, Denise - the 'blurb' in the paper put me off. :-((

3 Aug, 2011

and here`s me thinking we had hit rock bottom with Big Brother and X factor.

3 Aug, 2011

whoops missed it again ~ was it any good?

3 Aug, 2011

Just caught the end of it Drc....just at the reveal. I do have it on Sky+ in my room, so will watch it and comment tomorrow.
My only comment from what I did see was that summer house looked a wee bit ridiculous in the middle of the garden!

3 Aug, 2011

Oh I missed it again too and I don't know how to do catch up. Must make a note for next week because I would like to see it once at least.

3 Aug, 2011

It was a another terraced garden, at the back door they put a small deck but he put the anti slip grooves underneath because he thought it looked better! they then gave her a wooden so called summer house! but they painted it white yellow and cream inside and out and hung flappy curtains but it had no windows or door! The decking was also used as a wide path to link the deck and SH, also the wrong way up so I think they will find it quite dangerous once it get slippery.
They said the SH came as a flat pack well they come at about £700 so where did the £3,500 go?

3 Aug, 2011

I only watched it once ... absolute rubbish!

3 Aug, 2011

is it meant to be a joke program?
i cant watch disaster movies!!

3 Aug, 2011

More like horror movies sticki!!

3 Aug, 2011

No ST, it thinks it is a perfectly serious gardening programme which includes a make over.

3 Aug, 2011

oh dear, sounds as if the whole program needs a make over. i dont like horror movies either scottish

3 Aug, 2011

A Comedy then....depends on how you look at their attempts :)

3 Aug, 2011

It makes me laugh in that 'I dont believe this' way.
I forgot to say the £3,500 also included 3 mirrors.

3 Aug, 2011

I caught a few minutes of it - not impressed. Why did they pay so much for hanging baskets which weren't very well done? No preparation where the grass was laid, either - we all know how long that'll last! What rubbish - I pity the poor lady who owns the garden.

3 Aug, 2011

Every week I feel what a waste of the money Spritz.

3 Aug, 2011

i'm so glad I missed it! no torture for me.

3 Aug, 2011

Ginellie, you can catch up on Channel 5 website. Just had a look for you and all eposides are on it :))))))
BREAKING NEWS - If anyone would like to apply to be on the next series - you can do so on the website.
But don't say we didn't warn you...lol!
Maybe they get to keep the change Drc :)

3 Aug, 2011

somehow i doubt that scottish!!!

should be a GoY program ~ can you imagine it!??

3 Aug, 2011

It would need to be a pretty big garden sticki....everyone could bring along 1 plant of their choice.
That would be some garden!!!

3 Aug, 2011

From my point of view it is the worst garden programme/ series. I have ever seen.

4 Aug, 2011

You got that right Jenh

4 Aug, 2011

I agree. I just feel sorry for the poor victims. :-(

4 Aug, 2011

scottish i like that idea ~ now who would be the one to put them together in the best way ~ i can think of several people on here that are very good at that!!
what would you bring?
we could have desert island plants [an ideal island where anything could grow]
which eight plants would you take with you?

4 Aug, 2011

I try to avoid negative comments on here, but I agree with the above. I also watched it once - never again.

4 Aug, 2011

I`ve never watched it but am now very curious, so am off to investigate iplayer...

4 Aug, 2011

Don't say you haven't been warned Lincslass......its a travesty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 Aug, 2011

didnt see this Denise but wish i had, i will have to watch next one and see what i think, but doesnt sound good at all by the comments

4 Aug, 2011

I love garden programme's, especially the design aspect but i have to agree with you all with this one, its lost its mojo lol. I said to hub, (not that he cared) why put a Summerhouse in the middle of a small garden, that will cut the garden in half in an instant, and as for the decking being laid on the smooth side, no no no! .. Bare with me he said, so i thought, he's going to do something Fabulous behind the SH, maybe some small tree's or large architectual planting, but there wasn't anything, zilch.. Disappointing..

4 Aug, 2011

Its not on for 2 weeks Sanbaz. I thought the same YD.

4 Aug, 2011

Of all the skilled, knowledgable and creative gardeners out there, they choose this bunch :-(
I replied to a question here on GOY where someone asked about whether they should put coca cola on plants as a feed. Advise given on this program! Let alone cost wise it would be an expensive option, the rubbish and acidity in coca cola...and the ants, wasps.
The designs are abysmal. A shockingly bad program that deserves complaint!!! I hope they take it off air.

7 Aug, 2011

Well I found this prog, could only get one to play properly as the others are uavailable at the moment.
It was the nurses garden with the gazebo which they stuck smack bang in the middle, bit daft I thought, what were they supposed to do at the back of it, the decking will be lethal surely when it gets wet, as to the hammock bit well I think my kids could have done that when they were still at school, Mcfly`s bit wasn`t too bad although we all know our own Ydd could have done a better job of it.
Not really my idea of a good gardening prog...

7 Aug, 2011

Its not on this coming week but is the week after.

7 Aug, 2011

I won't bother then....lol...

9 Aug, 2011

:))

9 Aug, 2011

They probably get amazing ratings from horrorstruck gardeners staring open-mouthed athe the unfolding destruction :P

10 Aug, 2011

Ha Ha they probably do JF.

10 Aug, 2011

Just watched the latest after reading this.... you're right about turning the decking planks upside down, its madness! Does he realise that they're grooved for a reason? And it seemed as if half the plants they gave her were bedding plants, so if she doesn't know anything about it then shes just going to be left with a half empty garden come spring.

11 Aug, 2011

LOL JF madness as you say

11 Aug, 2011

Thanks Scottish I'll have a look.

14 Aug, 2011

Its is just starting, the budget is £2000

17 Aug, 2011

Dreadful again - fascinating in its dreadfulness, though!

Fancy Kate Garraway wanting plastic grass in her garden! Eeeek! She could easily afford a gardener to cut the real stuff.

In the other garden the fencing he put round only lasts a couple of years, and although the planting looks lovely at the moment, what happens when the (out of season) foxgloves go over? The same applies in the other bit of the garden...no preparation at all, make it all look easy-peasy. Grrrr....

18 Aug, 2011

I agree with you Spritz, to cover new fencing with that short life stuff - total waste on a small budget too. Those narrow flower beds would get very little light in a narrow garden which was then cut in half.

18 Aug, 2011

That's true, Denise. The owners were so pleased, but for how long? I just hope that novice gardeners don't try to copy the ideas. I think the programme's aimed at them, isn't it?

18 Aug, 2011

It is Spritz, I thinks its deliberate as they always choose first time buyers who know no better and just go along with it.

18 Aug, 2011

Did any of you notice when they were planting they didn't tease the roots apart, some of those plants looked pretty potbound to me, my first thought was, They wont survive lol.
I didn't like the "leaf" patio either, sorry if any Goyers have the same patio!

18 Aug, 2011

I didnt see it staying put either YD as that patio was not well prepared with no firm edges.

19 Aug, 2011

Yes, I noticed the 'pot-bound' plants, YDD. What a farce it all is! If this programme is meant to educate, well, it's failing. I agree about the patio - it was a bit 'fussy' for the size of the garden, and again as Denise said, no preparation.

19 Aug, 2011

Looks like they are converting a shed in Twickenham into a 'Moroccan-style retreat' this week. As Twick is just across the River from me I can't wait to see it. Must remember.

23 Aug, 2011

Looking forward to seeing that Ginellie, my sheds a mess.
Sorry Drc and spritz, just saw your comments! I wonder if those plants are still alive :)

23 Aug, 2011

Do you REALLY want a Moroccan-style shed, YDD? I suppose you'll have to watch and see what they do first - and how much it costs, too! ;-/

24 Aug, 2011

I need a new shed, full stop Spritz, its homemade and huge, I need design idea's, hub was going to pull it down and rebuild with a roof etc but we are saving up for a holiday in the sun next year, so if i could tart the old shed up lol that would save money...

24 Aug, 2011

Haha -if the couple get a budget of several thousand quid, David will have a wonderful time in their shed, won't he - but it won't help you, I'm afraid. :-((

Wait and see - I hope it does give you an idea or two!

24 Aug, 2011

Ahaha never thought of it that way, I thought maybe a splash of paint 20 quid lol..Off to work but taping it so ill see it tomorrow..

24 Aug, 2011

It's all very well turning a shed into a Moroccan hideaway, but where's that lady going to keep her gardening tools and bike now? :-O

As to the makeovers, they didn't prepare the soil yet again, and both those houses were new-builds, so the topsoil won't be deep, and the plants and trees won't thrive.

Did you notice that they gave one plant the wrong name? 'That' was Verbena rigida, not V. bonariensis, and the Pennisetum isn't hardy, let alone the Verbena, which isn't reliably hardy! Nice combination, but one frost will see them off.

Why didn't they water anything either?

24 Aug, 2011

Well I'm glad I remembered to watch it this time. Somehow I can't see me cleaning my indoor plant with mayo - even Sophie would think I'd lost the plot.
The male presenter irritated me so much because he couldn't stop waving his arms about. He was somewhere between Jamie Oliver and Tommy Cooper. Trouble is I shall have to watch it again next week, that's another viewer then.
Ah well, the little girl loved her new Wendy House.

24 Aug, 2011

The viewing figures must be tiny G!

24 Aug, 2011

Not if we're anything to go by - more experienced gardeners could be watching it just for the 'shock-horror'! lol.

25 Aug, 2011

I have just watched last nights, The budget was £4000 started off painting the new fence pale blue and stencilling it! The flower beds were no wider than the flower pots the plants were in. The patio again was poorly prepared and where are they going to put all that patio furniture and barbecue all winter? where do the the garden tools and mower go? In a small terrace house garden you do need some garden storage if you have plants and a lawn to care for. What a shame no real thought had gone into spending quite a big budget.

25 Aug, 2011

They'll have problems edging the lawn, too - if they bother.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, Denise - it's not properly thought out, is it. If other novice gardeners try to copy what's done, theyll be so disappointed.

By the way - do you think these programmes were recorded a while ago? The plants they put in are always in full bloom, and in a 'normal' garden, they've finished - e.g. Delphiniums.

26 Aug, 2011

I suspect they were all done in one weeks filming Spritz perhaps last summer? They did say this week that all the gardens were on one new housing estate. Talk about product placement!

26 Aug, 2011

You could well be right - but just imagine the grumbling there will be (or was) after all the plants die off, though!

26 Aug, 2011

Indeed
