No Nettles - no Ladybirds!

Now I know why I never see ladybirds in my garden. Having cleared all the Nettles in my wooded area over the last 10 years, I have removed the number one destination for Ladybirds with eggs to lay. Ladybirds are ferocious predators of pests including Aphids, Whitefly and Red spider mite. So next time I find a nettle I will allow a patch to grow and hopefully the busy ladybird will lay some eggs?

I didn't see any ladybirds last year, but this year there seems to be loads, noticed masses of them today on a couple of conifers in the garden, don't know why they're attracted to them ?

I have hundreds of Ladybirds every year, but there aren't nettles anywhere around here.

I wonder how close the nettles need to be to the garden, I don't have or want nettles in my garden but they grow in the hedgerows along the lane>
