Love this dahlia, gorgeous colour, and you've matched it perfectly with pom pom one behind, do you collect your seed? and if you do do they come true from seed?
Have dug tubers up to overwinter but find I loose more from rotting, so rather just grow from seed each year as they are so easy, grew some last year and every seed germinated.
Was thinking of growing a few more next year,to fill gaps in borders later in year, love the cactus one.
You certainly have some lovely ones.

Simbad, do you need greenhouse or coldframe to grow them from seed?
13 Sep, 2009
Thanks all ,no Sinbad I dont collect the seeds but I do lift the tuber,s every year ,most years I,ve been pretty lucky and managed to get them all through winter, last winter I lost a lot of tuber,s because of the bad winter we had,...just had to go and buy so new tuber.s to add to my collection... always make a point of buying a few newbies each year.grow a lot from seed as well..
Bornagain you can easily germinate Dahlia seeds on your windowsill I start my seeds this way, then when the weather warms a bit I put them into the greenhouse (unheated),if thats any help ,worth a try at sowing ,I get most of my dahlia seeds from D.T. Brown and never had any troble with their seeds germinating......

Thanks Janette, was given quite a few tubers by friend, a couple have come back every year don't know why just them partcular 2 when others rot in ground, on quite heavy clay soil, and were these two are planted is really heavy soil, strange, have started tubers off february time and taken cuttings, so probably best to do that if I want them to come true,or bought seed.
Bornagain like Janette just start them off on windowsill, do have one of those little plug in propogaters though, and like Janette move them to unheated greenhouse when large enough, I've had seed from Thompson and Morgan which have always germinated never tried D.T.Brown have to check them out.
