Winter is freezing! (YES, RIGHT HERE IN LOUISIANA)

If you’ve heard the song, “all the leaves are brown… and the skies are gray,” it perfectly describes my yard about now! I have risen to temperatures in the low 20’s every morning this week, and the forecast for this evening is… “Arctic blast, snow and wind!” Oh please, give me a break. So, I thought I’d take a quick venture out (mitts and cap included) to the greenhouse to see what was happening.
Holiday cactus nice and snug. Incidental note: The “Easter cactus” that I was anxiously watching for blooming, turned out to be a “Christmas Cactus!” It the very large one in the back of the photo. So, I had to go on line to order the not-so-easy to find “Easter.” That settled,
I’d like you meet my sidekicks: Beau and Luke (aptly named from the Dukes of Hazzard).
As it turns out, our stroll through the yard wasn’t so gloomy… I found two corners of color. The first being the nandina or heavenly bamboo.
And the last, the red tips (photinia fraseri) drooping with pine straw – that’s gonna be pretty with ice! That’s it for today folks ~~ Stay warm!
thought you might like this little buddy ~ he was on my ledge as I worked and “daring me” to make him move.

Oh, very strange indeed for you to be having such cold weather! I was in LA once, New Orleans, back in the '90's. Took a loop bus to the Botanical Gardens there, and was it ever HOT! And I was there the second week of May! lol. Beau and Luke are really sweet looking. I like your greenhouse and all your plants~ really pretty~ Lisa

Thank you all! We dodged the ice and snow, but the wind is starting to blow and the temperature is dropping, so I'm staying in with hot chocolate, hot coffee, hot tea! See the squirrel above; I think he was warming himself at the window. Lincslass, we're about to be "cold as a well digger's...shovel."
