Looks very eerie with all the tree branches silouhetted, but beautiful.Waddy... If my memory serves me , it's called Harvest Moon because it is so bright, the farmers could gather their crops by night, and after all it is Harvest Festival time.Might be wrong, but thats what I was told as a a child.

The shorter-than-usual time between moonrises around the full Harvest Moon means no long period of darkness between sunset and moonrise for days in succession. In the days before tractor lights, the lamp of the Harvest Moon helped farmers to gather their crops, despite the diminishing daylight hours. As the sun’s light faded in the west, the moon would soon rise in the east to illuminate the fields throughout the night.

during the war they were also known as bomber's moons. My uncle was a navigator in a bomber. Sadly he didn't make it back from Norway.

Yes, a really bright moonlight night it was. When I went for my walk with Paddy last night it was glowing.Which meant we could clearly see the police helicopter hovering above us as, it seems some loony was running amok woth a gun just down the road!! Ot what we're used to here!

The moon has been so bright this week I have got up to check if all the lights in the house had been switched off, Lol! (It isn't unusual to find a youngster has left the kitchen light on after a late night fridge-raid or fallen asleep before switching their bedroom light off).
