May in my garden

It’s surprising how anything can survive in my hillside garden as we haven’t had any (proper) rain in about 6 weeks but some lovely plants are popping up and shrubs flowering anyway.
I photographed a few this afternoon. I hope they make you smile as much as they make me happy.
It seems to be Poppy, Peony and mainly pink time. The Peonies are a lovely splash of red here and there though throughout the gardens.

My Hostas are doing ok. I hope they escape the attention of the snails this summer. The Alliums must have been in the homemade compost I spread on the borders.

These airy Alliums have been in this bed many year and finish before the Penstemons get going. The yellow and orange poppies, as you know, just pop up anywhere

Paul’s Scarlet rose looks lovely…

The Rhododendron is cosying up to the Choisia.

I absolutely adore the variegated bush.

Arthur Bell has only just started.

My hardy Begonia seedlings are coming along nicely.

Oriental Poppies need staking really as the heads are so heavy. It’s a bit late for that now!

And last but not least my Zantedeschia a look startlingly white against the lovely green leaves.

Rain is forecast for us tonight. I hope it’s steady and throughout the night. As always Happy gardening everyone.

Thanks for the lovely tour, Sheila. You’ve a pretty selection of blooms there, plus your hostess look perfect - I’m envious!
We had a downpour early hours, the air smells fresher this morning.

Thank you Sheila and Kate. We got the promised rain last night, nice and steady. It felt quite mild first thing too. It’s a bit grey and windy just now. Hope we get another drop or two later today.

Your garden looks wonderful Homebird. Almost like in middle of summer. Love your Poppies with the Verbascum.

I enjoyed the tour round your garden and like Klahanie said, it looks like a summer garden.

Lovely tour round your beautiful garden Homebird. Thank you

Thankyou Klahanie, Rose and Callie. I wasn’t expecting much from the garden this year because I have had to neglect it quite a lot. I am just mowing the lawns and pulling the weeds out as I see them raise their heads in the borders. I’ve not bought any flower seed or annual plants this year but the borders seem full enough for now.

Lovely Hb I have said the same about the weigela have noticed over the last few years how gorgeous it is 😍 I love it too

Thanks Daylily. I’ve managed to get 2 cuttings from the variegated Weigela to strike a couple of years ago, both flowering their socks off. One I planted in the border the other still in a pot. I must try to get a cutting of the Bristol Ruby one to strike this year. It’s a shame it never gets a chance to flower properly in the hedge.

All looking good. which hardy begonia do you have? I have B sutherlandii and it self sowed into the gravel below the wall where it was in a pot.

Your hostas look healthy, sadly the escargot are having a field day with mine now we have had a bit of rain.

Thanks Sbg I think it is hardy begonia grandis ‘Sapporo’. Label long since lost. I bought it from Henstead Exotic Garden in Suffolk in 2017. I also bought a banana which unfortunately didn’t survive. I will take a look at B Sutherlandii.
