St Ciwg's Day

The 29th of June is St Ciwg’s Day.
( pronounced ‘Kewg’ )
And that’s today.
He was a 6th century Celtic saint, and there’s a church dedicated to him in rather a remote place near here. It’s called Llangiwg.
Since it’s St Ciwg’s day today I thought I’d show some photos of the old church and the wild flowers growing all around it.
There are wild cranesbills all over the place.
Geranium pratense
Here’s a favourite wild flower of mine – Umbilicus rupestris, Wall Pennywort … it grows on the walls around the church
There are plenty of foxgloves aswell, Digitalis purpurea
Ox Eye Daisies, Leucanthemum vulgare
And a little vetch, but I don’t know the species.
The church is surrounded by large old oak trees, Quercus robur
And there’s a Yew, Taxus baccata, in the grounds as with all very old churches, but I think it’s suffered being cut back a lot over the years.
Ivy, Hedera helix, clings to the old tower and surrounding walls.
There are nice views from the lane around the church
The saying of St Ciwg is
“The possessor of discretion is far-sighted”
The porch had been decorated for the day
We used to go up there for walks when we were kids and they could leave the church open in those days so we could go inside.
The last service held at Llangiwg was Christmas 2001. Then it was closed down.
A local voluntary organisation called “The Friends of Llangiwg” have now bought it.

i looked at your blogs and thought how much some of my ones i deleted resembled some of yours in a way....i guess when it sa on GoY like minded people...things like that prove the point.... its good for me to see these things because ive never really realized that a lot of people do have things in common... so yes i like the old blogs....
29 Nov, 2013
Did you read them all ? lol it must have taken ages :o)
I have also deleted many over the years. Sometimes I have a 'clearout' of my old blogs, especially when my cat Blodyn died last spring. I deleted all the ones with her photos in. Can't bear to look at them now. It makes me feel so sad.

no never read them all :-) but i bet they are all very worth a read :-) i all ways destroy what i create...i think it stems
from my father always demanding perfection in order to please him...so therefore all i do is never good enough....hence deletion....but then we all are in affect products of our upbringings....not nice being sad...so sensible you...anyhow on a lighter note thx for this blog too...
