Well, those were just some of my Fuchsias – the ‘best’ ones of this year. The others didn’t flower.
Hopefully we’ll get a sunnier summer for them next year.

I am now preparing them for their winter’s rest – they will soon be in a shed, and covered over with newspaper until next February or March, when I hope they will start to form new growth again :)

I do have several hardy ones though, and those are the ones I’ve put in my next blog :)

Beautiful varieties you have Hywel my favourites are Jose Tamerus and Snow White they are gorgeous.

I like Micky Goult and Snow White very much but its a difficult choice. In general I'm going off the very double ones a bit but she's lovely. There's a beautiful simplicity about some of the semi doubles that can get a bit lost in lots of fancy flounces but as with most things its horses for courses.. Another fantastic blog - thank you!

Delightful, I can see why you collect them Hywel, so pretty, each and everyone of them......not heard of the last one!! quite different isn't it?

What an other lovely blog Hywel, love them all but if had to choose think my favourites are 3, 10 and 17. The amount you have in your collection amaze me :-)

I keep looking at them trying to choose my favourites but I have come to the conclusion that are all my favourites!!!

Another enlightening Blog Hywel. I've added again to fav's as a good reference source. Out of all of the 21 that you've included, I've only ever grown Blackie and Swingtime! I love the double varieties to grow in Baskets and containers... Thank you once again for this invaluable pictorial reference... ;o)

well this was a treat to look at Hywel. cant decide which are my favourites they are all glorious.
I did have one of the tiny ones but I lost it in the really bad winter 2010/11.

Another great blog on fuchsias, Hywel! I've put it straight into My Favourites!

Of all the Fuchsias you have I've only ever grown 'Swingtime' - twice! I've only ever heard of one other before 'Mary Lockyer' - though you have probably shown us some of them before with their names, if you have then I've forgotten them!

Amazing Hywel.

Lovely ... 'Blackie' and 'Cecile' were two of mine that had the gall mite problem so I shall definitely get those again in the Spring.

Maybe I could get you some cuttings Shirley.

I wanted to tell you my favourites but there are too many of them!!
What a marvellous collection you have.
Mind you, Snow White and Cotton Candy could possibly be my favourites!!!

Thanks everyone :)
I prefer the single ones, but my favourite double is Welsh Dragon - no need to ask
why lol :D

Straight in to favourites again Hywel. Your blogs outshine any of the books I have seen because they are instantly available. Your answers are always to the point. I cannot choose a favourite. Well done on the blog and on growing so many healthy specimens to share with us.

Lol Hywel, our favourite local sausages are called Welsh dragon!

3 Nov, 2016

LOL :D

3 Nov, 2016

I grew 'Swingtime' on my balcony on at least 2 occasions & today, quite by accident, I came across some photos of 'Swingtime' from 2006 on my computer!

3 Nov, 2016

I didn't have a computer in 2006. I didn't have a camera either :D
I've grown Swingtime since the 1980s :) I have a few very old plants.

My favourites are always the pastel colours Hywel and if I'm being honest I think the single varieties, saying that they are all lovely and I would never turn my nose up at any of them. Added to my favs, appreciate you taking the time to name them...

I think the same as you Sue. Thanks for your comment :)

Here is a link to a photo of Fuchsia 'Swingtime' in 2010.

It's very pretty. I like the little one next to it also :)

6 Nov, 2016

I think the other one was 'Sarah's Delta'. A really lovely plant that didn't make it through that terrible winter of 2010-11 either. I lost a great many of my plants that winter.

7 Nov, 2016

That's a hardy variety but if the root ball froze it would have died. That was a terrible winter, I remember :(
(It's Delta's Sarah - there are several Deltas. The breeder lives in the Netherlands)

7 Nov, 2016

Didn't you lose a Delta's Sarah a couple of years ago Hywel? perhaps it isn't as hardy as some.

7 Nov, 2016

It was very small and rather weak when I planted it out. I wasn't surprised it died.
This one was big when I planted it out so had a better chance.

7 Nov, 2016

:))

8 Nov, 2016

Sorry Hywel, you are right, as I was quoting its name from memory I made that mistake of inverting the names!

12 Nov, 2016

ok :)

Gorgeous Fuschias! they really are queens of the ball, aren't they?

25 Sep, 2017

Thank you, yes they are beautiful :)

My Fuchsias will be going "under wraps" in a few weeks time as the summer bedding will be taken out to make way for the planting of spring bulbs & bedding plants.

My cutting of 'Lady Boothby' has exceeded all expectations & is now over 6ft high! It's very difficult to get a good photo, although I've taken quite a few, as it's very high but VERY narrow! I took one yesterday from outside of the balcony but it's not very good either.

I find the best photos are those of just a foot or two where there are a number of flowers. Even that's not very easy as the flowers tend to be individual & widely separated! Yet in the last couple of weeks some of the side shoots with flowers are putting out small clusters of flowers.

I like the individual flowers but this is not a Fuchsia for mass display!

26 Sep, 2017

That's true. I think its grown really for the novelty of having a tall one. If you love the colour have a look at New Millennium - it's a bit lax but the flowers are wonderful.

26 Sep, 2017

Thanks, Stera! :-))

27 Sep, 2017

Do you want me do take you a cutting? Not too late. I can either send it or root it for you here.

27 Sep, 2017

If you could root me one I'd love it! ??
