Trellises

At the bottom of my garden I have a flower bed where there was once a disused driveway,
and at the back of the flower bed I used to have a plastic mesh tied on to bean sticks, for climbers to grow on.

However in time the mesh became saggy and broken and looked a mess, so I decided to replace it with wooden trellises.

I put the upright posts in myself, and my garden helping lady assisted me in screwing the trellises to the posts. She did one side and I did the other.

Here’s what it was like with the plastic mesh (taken in July 2021 and a bit overgrown)

Here it is now with the tresllises, waiting for things to grow over them …

I hope you think the trellises look better than the mesh.
They also screen the old garage/shed, and when the climbers have grown on them they’ll look nice I think :)

What a transformation Hywel...the new trellises have added so much to your garden....what climbers will you use?

There's a Clematis and perennial Sweet Pea already there Meadowland, that climbed on the old plastic mesh.
I have two more clematises to plant and hope to buy a small climbing rose as well.

Hywel, I think they look very smart and when your plants are growing up, it will look lovely as does your garden.

I love the new trellis, Hywel, and am I right in thinking there is a pathway beyond where folk can walk and admire your planting?

Thanks for all your comments :)

Thank you Meadowland I shall look out for that rose, I do like orange ones :)

Thank you Callie, I have a few things to plant that will climb on it :)

Yes Shirley a single track road passes by it and people take their dogs for walks along there, and people use it as a short cut. They often stop and chatt :)

Ah, more than a pathway then! I bet you'll get some positive comments from passers-by soon.

They look so smart Hywel! I really like them and the way you've left a good space below. The plants below look easily accessible too.

Thank you Shirley and Janey

I left a space so that I could reach the plants in the ground :)

I have been meaning to message you
- do you remember my epiphyllum that has huge white flowers? It has had SIX this year - They have been wonderful and given me such a lot of pleasure. I kept wishing you could see them. Stupidly I didn't take any photographs.

Nice to hear of your Epiphyllum Steragram, it must have looked spectacular.
The one you sent me had a big flower last year but hasn't got any buds this year yet. I hope it will flower sometime in the summer.

It’s looking really good. Look forward to seeing it later on.
It doesn’t look as though there could be enough room for a path behind your trellises & the garage. Anyway I bet
people enjoy looking down on your garden & nice if they stop for a chat.

Thank you Feverfew.
There is a small road in front of the flower patch, where poeple pass by, and the photos are taken from the road.

There is a small path between the trellises and the garage/shed, but only I can get to it.
