Visited a new patient today and his family has a pheasant nesting at the front of the house in a concrete planter!!!
Apparently..there are THIRTEEN eggs underneath! All I thought was, I do hope a fox or a cat doesn’t attack the poor thing! Keeping fingers crossed 🤞

It would be such a pity if a cat found the family. What can you do? It is quite a responsibility.

Very cool Kate. What a site that must have been. They aren't docile birds from what I understand, especially when protecting the nest. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of their indignation.

Fingers crossed they have a happy ending! 🤞

They usually spend quite a time looking at potential sites apparently, so perhaps she knows this one is relatively safe.

as you say fingers crossed!

Thanks Eileen, that’s good to hear..hoping she has made a sensible choice. 🤞

Wow Kate, that's quite an experience! Imagine if and when they all hatch there will be little pheasant chicks running round the garden!

It's fantastic that she feels safe enough to nest so close to the house, but sad that wildlife has to do so. Habitat loss is forcing wildlife into our gardens and cities. Best of luck to her.

Hope she gets away with it. It's when the chicks start cheaping that they give their presence away.

Sue, I think they will be overrun with little chicks if there are 13! I’d love to think they’ll all be safe!!!

You are so right, Honeysuckle! It’s sad that we have altered their habitat over the years and this has caused them to nest and feed close to us or pretty much ‘on our doorstep’...
I’m wishing her all the luck too! She’ll need it.

Josee, have to agree...this is the worry. Predators will hear the little chicks...I know it’s nature and all that, but, it’s not the most pleasant thought.

How lovely, hope they all survive.

Mama knows how to tell the chicks to keep quiet

Fingers crossed for the little family, Stroller - hope you’re right, Paul.
