Dismantling the old wood wall.

We started on Saturday..taking the wood wall apart. I’d moved all the edging plants from the rockery and we got cracking on dismantling the wood blocks.
We’ve filled about 25 rubble bags with soil and rock pieces.
They are all neatly placed down the path at the side of the house less frequently used.
We will order a skip soon. Some of the soil will be used to backfill the new brick wall. Still have to finishing dismantling and digging. OH may have to do this himself on Good Friday! I’m off to see Simple Minds in concert on Friday evening, with friends.
OH is off for the second week of Easter. He will hire a whacker plate to get started. There’ll be a new little path in front of the rockery, and a new back patio.
I did enjoy the digging out today, it was quite pleasant in the sunshine.

That's an impressive weekend's work! The trouble with getting one major job done is that it highlights all sorts of other ideas that hadn't occurred to you before... It will be well worth the effort when it's completed.

Julia, I think yoga is more difficult! ☺️ The wall dismantling was much easier!
The bund is sort of compacted and pretty vertical in itself. We cleared it of brambles which eventually spread all over, so OH dug them out by hand many years ago.
We sited a short fence almost half way up and across…and added shrubs to what was there already.
Our fence is covered with ivy, ceanothus, spreading rose and clematis.
We call the lower bund the rockery and at the other side, we’ve steps and shrubbery.

Thank you kindly indeed, Eileen! It was a fab workout - lifting the bags was exhausting though and traipsing round the side with them..ugh! I’m hoping you’re right and the end result will be much more improved!

Thanks to you too, Ange! Yes, you’re right. One job leads to another…it’s never ending isn’t it! I’m looking forward to seeing it all finished and enjoying the new back patio…eventually! Fortunately we have a patio at the house too, just in case the job runs through summer 🙄

Sue, I appreciate your concern and kind thoughts. Yes, I’m not so keen on the whacker plate part of the ‘task’! We shall certainly take your advice. 👍😊

Thank you, Jane! It does feel quite exciting, even digging out piles of soil - which feels never ending! I’ll be sure to post all the updates and thank you, I’m looking forward to the concert 🎵

Thanks Josee! There’s definitely a satisfying feeling when you feel you’re progressing, albeit slowly 😊. Will post updates later on.

Well done Kate and your enthusiasm is infectious!! Mind you I weeded a tiled path in the middle of our vegetable patch…… getting down was fine but getting up again was not so easy!!!
Please let us know the next stage of your project.

You had a huge job there Kate! But it will look lovely when it is all done! At least you have had good weather!

Thank you kindly, Paul! You are quite innovative with your wall building and reusing rubble!!!! I did enjoy the concert, thank you, they were fab!!! Lots of nostalgia and favourite tunes! My friend and I stood up and danced quite a bit!!!! Think her husband was a bit embarrassed ☺️
