A little time today, checking out the rockery.

It was a sunny, cool afternoon today. I thought I’d pop out and see how the rockery was doing.
I’d removed several plants that had succumbed to the summer heat a couple of months back and didn’t recover. Plus I’d pruned back some things quite harshly.
We’ll see what spring brings…
I’d planted a few small tulip bulbs and several aconites. Looking forward to seeing what pops through next year.

Thank you, Julia! Pleased you like the choices. Yes, you’re right. It’s an Ajuga. There’s several dotted around on the rockery. Pic 2 and pic 6 included.

Thanks for your feedback, Paul. Pleased you like it too. I liked your red brick planter filled with succulents. Winter gives you time to plan ahead for the garden in the coming year.

It all looks good Kate! A lovely and cheerful collection of plants.

Thank you, Rose. Hoping to add more colour next year to the rockery as I did this summer. I've some dahlias which are pretty much finished, and the geraniums are still lingering on there.

I have an attraction for geometrically shaped plants. Most of this type seem to be small rockery plants. You have a pretty selection there.

Thank you kindly, Ange! I'm happy to hear you like my planting selection, hopefully I'll be able to add some more come spring.

that looks really happy, you clearly made some good choices in trimming back and replanting.

I love Ajuga as they are happy even under my beech tree.

Succulents are doing really well. Do they get attacked by vine weevil? Mine tend to sadly.

Liiking good. Ive my succulents covered against the downpours of rain.

Your rockery is very pretty. You seem to be able to grow Sempervivums well (they're about the only succulent plants I can't grow) I see you've got a few different types.

Looking good Kate,I like alpines, sedums and suchlike, have all those, thought I'd lost my ajugas during summer but all bounced back, mind you they are now in danger of drowning instead, I've never tried growing my succulents in the garden but I must have emptied a pot on the raised bed at the back of my greenhouse as I have a couple I never deliberately planted, now I have spares I'm tempted to try more especially on the bed near the fishpond and in the rose garden...Lovely photo's Kate x

Thanks kindly, Eileen, pleased you like. I think while OH was doing the path and brick wall, some plants were damaged. It gave us a chance to tidy, rejig and try some new plants.
Having Ajuga under your beech tree will look really lovely!!! A great planting site and idea.
Have to say we're very lucky nothing eats or damages the succulents. I would say the only noticeable thing is the odd touch of mould from dampness or frost. The rockery is very sheltered by the bund and surrounding plants, so we're lucky in that respect. 🤞

Thanks Sue!!! I appreciate you protecting yours, I find they're quite expensive from the GC so trying to keep them as dry and safe as possible is well worth it.

Thanks Hywel, pleased to hear you like my collection. I do like all the varieties planted next to each other and blending to an extent. I do think I'm lucky that they seem to survive outside as they're sited in a fairly protected area, from harsh weather.

Aw thanks, Sue. They are quite attractive plants aren't they! My ajuga suffered a little bit in the heat during the summer. Like yours, they're now looking good and the colour is pretty and quite vivid now.
I think planting them next to your pond sounds lovely!!! It'll be quite effective. They'd also look nice underneath your roses too, you've certainly come up with really lovely ideas. 🤗

Lovely photos as always. Lots of varied colours & leaf shapes, so very pretty rockery.
