Gardening and fun with Perry

Well if I ever thought Perry would be similar to Jake I would have been very wrong. In place of the placid and easy going creature that was our Jake, we have a cross between the Hound of the Baskervilles and Scooby Doo…lol! Life with Perry is certainly never boring from the moment we get up until the moment we fall into bed exhausted. He never fails to make us laugh..and sometimes almost cry ( I`ll come to that later!). For instance,do you remember telling you about the glove he carries everywhere? Well, this afternoon he took it outside on the lawn and promptly decided that he would have a game with it on the lawn. He threw it in the air and then leapt up, all four legs leaving the ground like a spring lamb, catching the glove in mid air. He did this over and over again and I just couldn`t stop laughing as I watched from the kitchen doorway…it was so funny, I wish you could have seen him. Yesterday morning as I was about to leave for work I let him out. Instead of doing what a dog has to do he decided instead to roll over on the lawn, the very wet lawn. My beautiful creamy yellow labrador looked more like a dalmation with the slodges of mud all over his body. I had to go to work knowing that when I arrived home again there would be muddy marks all over the kitchen…and there were, lots of them! Oh well, whats a bit of cleaning up compared to the fun and laughter that Perry provides on a daily basis.

Now to the almost crying bit. I`ve spent most of my afternoons this week weeding and preparing the beds ready for the Summer. I was kneeling down fork in hand and throwing weeds and debris into a trug. Perry was emptying the trug and throwing its contents across the lawn. I put them back, he took them out, I put them back….and so on! Then I shouted, a bit too loudly and I hurt my throat, for the rest of the afternoon I just croaked at him to get off the garden…lol! he likes the greenhouse too though he won`t go in if I`m in there, even if its raining. He waits until I go out into the garden and then in he goes and parks himself on my kneeling mat.

I`ve also discovered that he really dislikes certain songs that hears on the radio. There was an old one that was played yesterday, called Toast. He barked and yowled his way all through it. He also likes watching nature programmes, and seemed fascinated by the Hyenas he saw last night. Jake would never turn a hair at something as boring as television. Perry is also not at all bothered by storms. We had one last night and he didn`t seem at all bothered by it. Perhaps the only thing that isn`t too good is he doesn`t seem too fond of some other dogs. Jim took him out with a friend and his dog the other day and Perry growled at him straight away. The other dog Max is a dogue de Bordeaux, a huge French breed, but a real softie. Poor Max jumped a foot in the air when Perry growled. Max was Jake`s best friend and I`m sure he was hoping Perry would play with him too. I suppose we`ll just have to keep trying.

Tomorrow is my birthday so I`m going for a meal with the family in the evening. I can`t believe I`ll be 21 again…lol!
