February in one very soggy garden...

Well aren’t we having a wet season, I’m so lucky as I don’t live in any of the flooded areas and my heart goes out to all that do, not a lot of gardening getting done although I have pruned all the roses and made a start on cutting back some of the perennials, earlier than usual for that job this year but so many are weeks in front, its definitely being done in easy stages, my top lawn is like a paddy field, not good to share with three dogs but they have to go out, I know it will grow back, the rest is doing remarkably well considering and my Hellebores are loving it..
More colour appearing every time I take a walk..
My Photina started out as a shrub but got broken when Brynner was a puppy, I nearly murdered him that day, I persevered and trained it as a standard, its taken a few years and has a twisted trunk( in fact Brynner is now 10yrs old) but I think it looks lovely..
Some of you will remember my problems with my viburnams, this is the one I tried for years to save as it is special to me, as you can see I have a success story at last…
Pleased to see this splash of colour down in the stumpery as none appeared last year and I thought I had lost them..
All things considering despite me losing my mojo last autumn, the batterings and nearly drowning at times since, my garden is doing okay….

Lovely photos Lincs. Your hellebores are beautiful. I am so pleased your viburnum has recovered so well. I think I can smell that wallflower from here. It is a very pretty shade of pink. Our garden is too wet to walk on but it is so windy we daren't venture in to the garden anyway. There is no way I can take photos as the plants are all dancing to some rock band I think. The retic iris are losing their heads at an alarming rate. My son gave us a new security camera so we could see who was at the front door. We mentioned to him that as long as I stay on the drive my OH can see where I am. Bless him he has now fitted cameras all the way round the house so I can go out for a bit of r&r knowing that OH can see where I am if he needs me. One camera can be focussed on the bird feeder and it has given us endless hours of bird watching fun.

Your Hellebores are lovely Sue. I have the purple one , but my others were just bought last year, so not many flowers showing yet.
Your Photinia looks great and what a good idea to make it into a standard!
We are luckier than most here on the east coast apart from the horrendous winds we are getting.

Well Sue...snap...we look just the same up here! Your hellebores are lovely and you have lots of pretty flowers. I particularly love that pretty variegated Vinca. We have our first little daffodils out at last and the pulmonarias are showing their first flowers as well. Spring is on the way....although it looks like it will be a soggy one. I wonder how on earth those who are flooded will cope with even more water after today. Like you, we are so grateful to live in a flood-free zone. The water just keeps on coming. In one of the fields at the front of us there is now an impromptu pond. It's a grass field and I am tempted to take the dogs in for a splash about!

The flowers are coping better with the wet, miserable weather than we are I think!
Like you, I am surprised how many plants seem to be happily flourishing at the moment! Hellebores have been superstars this year. I do love your photina and viburnum, they both look very healthy.
Just wish the rain would stop!

Lincs, I am so enjoying the colour in these late February blogs after the seemingly endless grey of the Winter. The Hellebores are fabulous. Love the Photinia too.

Thankyou all, I daren't show my lawn, it looks like a paddy field up near the patio and fishpond, its going to take some renovation to get that back how it was, some of you will remember that years ago I had a dogrun, ran all the way down the side of our footpath, nearly the full length of our garden, we didn't replace it when it rotted, now that we have Pepper and Harriet, hubby has said he will build me a new one, anyone with terriers will know how fast they can run and they do have lots of energy, Brynner, bless him, rarely runs as he is over 10yrs old now, the other two will ( hopefully) be with us for a very long time, they need to run and play so to save my garden its needs must....

Hi Lincslass, lovely blog with very pretty spring flowers. I do hope my Photinia does as well as yours. Mine has lots of new growth, but when you get out in the garden and inspect it up close, the older leaves are still blighted...
Good news about your viburnum. I have two, one large in the front which thrives. The other, I bought last year for the back, fingers crossed.

Your garden looks great, so much colour and interest, I’m pleased you’re getting stuck in again and Spring is just around the corner. You did well with the Photinia and tinus, very satisfying.

Your Hellebores are lovely, brightening the day, and your Primulas are more advanced than mine. Thank you for venturing out on such a dreary wet day to take photos.
