The Ongoing Saga of My Green Man "Treebeard"

Some of you will probably remember him, he started life as an apple tree that sadly became dangerous so had to be cut down, was resurrected as a homegrown Green Man and you helped choose his name, Treebeard after one of Tolkiens characters..

He kept the garden safe from 2017 until Storm Kathleen had a right go last week…….
Taking a wander around between downpours ( as you do) I noticed that he looked as though he’d had a night on the town, a very drunken sot and was listing to the left, very unsafe to say the least, I only gave him a tiny shove and he fell flat on his face, poor Treebeard….
Daft as it seems I felt really guilty….
On closer inspection I found he was not as bad as I thought, okay he was a showing a few more scars but still worth keeping, where to put him was the next thought, somewhere magical came next, I didn’t take long to find his spot…

The stumpery, nowhere better…..

I had to transport him on my sack wheels, he’s a right heavy lump, then place him without harming the newly emerging ferns with my size fours, plus ensuring he wasn’t going to fall again….
Now he is one happy chappie again, although he does look grumpy when its raining…

Told you it was magical, completely transformed, he’s now lounging around, changes colour as swiftly as our weather does and is already sprouting a new head of hair, I think by tomorrow night he might even have a few extensions ….

Haha Sue! You really made me smile! Someone as daft as me!
You did well to move him on his own though. A great idea putting him in the fernery

I think he is great. Yes, looks just right in the fernery.

He certainly has Hywel, good bit of recycling, I couldn't just throw him out, he's as old as I am and has added a quirky character to the stumpery.....

Rose you know me well, I'm a soft beggar at heart with a very vivid imagination.... I tried rolling but the bark was falling off which would have spoilt the effect, couldn't carry him across the garden so the wheels it was, took a fair bit of huffing and puff to lift over the bit that now form his legs but I got there as you can see...
I'm pleased I made you smile, I did whilst taking my photo's, we both need things to make us smile at present don't we...xx

Thankyou F'few...
My greenman has always amused me, was actually a bit out of place where it sat but we couldn't remove the stump at the time, did try originally, left to the natural progression of Mother Nature that job has now been done for me, I think he suits his new home, more natural and will look even better as the fronds unfurl on the ferns.....

Hello Lincslass - what a lovely story on saving such a special character in the garden - I am sure he will be very happy in his new location in your garden

All part of Merrie England, Lincs, and very appropriate coming up to St. George's Day. I expect Robin Hood to appear any minute! (Aren't you in his part of the world?) Your Green Man looks good.

Thanks David, he's settled well, thought I might need to dig a hole to sink him a bit, however I fed his hollow belly up with compost and he's a stable chappie again now. LOL....

Hi Ange, I'm on the Lincs/Rutland Border, one of our claims to fame is that our local leading gentries family are descended from the chap that signed Mary Queen of Scots Death Warrant, William Cecil of Burghley, not forgetting Sir Malcom Sargent and Daniel Lambert and of course Middlemarch........
He looks quite a character doesn't he Ange, lol....

I do love your stumpery, Sue! Always inspires me. Love the verdant lushness. Your Mr Tree beard looks right at home there, I think he'll be very settled!!!!! Must have been a right old task getting him moved!

I have a set of very strong sackwheels that were Dereks, I'm glad I didn't give them away, Its surprising how handy they are for me, I don't do well with lifting now and would never have managed with a barrow... The stumpery has worked well in that corner, I have to admit its one of my favourite spots....
