My Old Man......

My Old Man has been with me a very long time, so you can imagine how I felt when he took a nasty tumble today and broke a limb !!!!!! I felt so guilty, it was all my fault, I was only drawing the blind shut in the kitchen and didn`t realise how close he was poor thing, anyway he went flying, you should have seen the mess, all over the worktop and draining board even in the sink, luckily there wasn`t any water in the bowl else I`m sure he would have suffered even more. Panic stricken I tried to help him up, which hurt me nearly as much as him (OUCH) then to my horror, I noticed his upper arm was nearly severed right through !!!!!!!!,. Ignoring my pain I carefully wrapped him up and rushed him to my local emergency centre….
After a lot of soul searching I took the decision to remove the severed part completely and hopefully save my old man from the risk of disease as I said he`s been around a long time.
He`s back home now, all cleaned up and hopefully is recovering .
What do you think ?

Ha ha Lin, I enjoyed that. As I got to the bottom I was wondering if you got prickled.
You dealt with the emergency well and if you get an offspring going that will be a real bonus.

I think he'll be ok. :o))
The 'broken off bit' will probably be all right aswell.
I hope your fingers will be all right too ;o)

If Hywel thinks he'll recover, I'm sure he will! I'm amazed at what H. gets up to with his cacti! lol.
Well done you for dealing with a possible fatality...now to deal with those pricked fingers. I felt that! OUCH!!

The remaining 'stump' will probably start to branch in time. They do that. Also if you want the cutting to catch try keeping it rather dry for a while.

You Orthopaedic Surgeons are wonderful. It sounds as though your old man is going to pull through because of your quick actions, discounting of course the fact that you knocked him over in the first place!
Now if your fingers are alright by now, alls well that ends well. Good luck Lincslass

I had a laugh reading through this blog! :-D It wasn't till I saw the picture of the Cactus that I realised you weren't talking about some kind of ornament that you women are so adept at collecting & putting in every nook & cranny of the house. Lol!
Never mind, all's well that ends well & in a few months you'll have a "son" from your "Old Man"!
My wife must have knocked one of my African Violets off the windowsill in the spare bedroom a couple of days ago. When I went in yesterday to see if the plants needed watering, (they did), I found some compost & a few leaves on the floor. I picked up the leaves & found 3 with some stem on them & put them in a glass of water after cleaning the leaves under the kitchen tap. This morning I put them in a small pot. In a few months I'll have some more Saint Paulias! Especially after having had to throw 2 away today as they were dying.

Glad you got your Old Man sorted, and I`m sure he`ll be in fine fettle in a few weeks time.
