Anyone for flower arranging?

My sister and cousin go to a flower arranging class every Friday, but my cousin is on holiday for three weeks and asked if I would like to go in her place.
This is the result…..a display for a long dinner table.
This Friday we are going a bit more trendy. Watch this space!!!

I can paint flowers Linda, but not arrange them. I am just wending my way through a good size watercolour of the peonia Bowl of Beauty. So far so good but still time to make a mess of it! This is about the 5th attempt to paint them

Good luck with Bowl of beauty Dorjac! Very pretty arrangement Linda!

Beautiful, you'd pay a small fortune paying for something like that from the florists! I wish I had your talent!

I think I shall ask my florist if she ever does classes in arranging. She is so brilliant at it, and it's something I've always wanted to learn. This is lovely. I look forward to seeing the trendy arrangement!

I love flower arrangements, the Flower tent at Lincolnshire show is a must when we go to the show, the flower arrangements are great, some very trendy some more formal, but which ever I love them all, I wish I had an artistic bone in my body. I can only appreciate art, wish I could paint and arrange things nicely and prettily. Love your arrangement Linda.

Its lovely Linda well done, at least you put more flowers than the florists do, they must make a fortune yet add more greenery, I done my daughter in laws boquet and daughters too and brides mades, I use to do lots for my daughters school too as they said the same I put more flowers in than the florist who charges a fortune, but then they don't like forking out the money, I use to never charge them either, yet they would soon pay up to a florist. My sister had a shop and asked me to do baskets up which a lot like a tip for you to put around the house, after I made them all up, she said she rents a shelf out to another woman so I would nt be able to put mine in her shop as the woman would object, so I give up doing any thing for any one any more.

It is lovely Linda, I love flower arranging too! I make arrangements out of cold porcelain, when I have time.

Well done Linda, I love flowers but just can't get to grips with the arranging.

whats cold porcelain teds? is it like clay?

Well, thank you everyone for your encouraging comments.
I have always done my own arrangements at Christmas, but that was my limit. I can get a lot of greenery from my garden, but this Friday I needed a couple of Fatsia leaves and didn't have any. Rather than getting arrested in the park!!!! I went to Homebase, but it was a pretty poor looking plant they had. Good leaves but dropping down due to the cold. I asked if they would reduce it from £3.99 and they gave it to me for 50p...... I'll nurse it back to health.
.......and NO Bjs I don't do any other kind of table decoration!!! lol
What is cold porcelain Teds?
There is one little lady at the flower club who uses only plastic flowers. They don't look quite as good....they look as if they have been around too long.

I must remember to do some bargaining in Homebase GC Linda. I didn't realise you could do that. Sometimes they have something I would like, thats gone a bit tatty, but it's still too pricey. I have tried flower arranging but didn't take to it.

Cold Porcelain is modeling material used to make flower arrangements. It is made from corn flower, pva glue, oil, and preservative. You can take a look at the single rose picture and flower display on my photo's, I think they are much more realistic than plastic flowers. Hope that helps Teds

good bargaining linda ~ well worth remembering!

teds ~ that sounds very interesting; if you have time please could you make a blog cos i would love to know more about the cold porcelain.

Wow! Your flower is really beautiful Teds. It certainly is much more realistic than plastic flowers.

My sister and cousin do the flowers for their churches 6d. They have also done a few weddings for friends and have been keen to get me involved.
I have a lot of work on at the moment so I won't be rushing into that one, but I am sure it is the combination of gardener and painter that helps me to arrange flowers.
It is just a mini garden.

I quite often put flowers and plants in my portrait paintings, but I never paint them on their own.
I'm sure you will get a likeness to your Paeonias Dorjac....at least they sit still.
My sister's class is full and I mean full, so it is worth asking your florist if she is interested in starting a class Karen. You will end up buying more flowers from her.

Oh its fab...well done! :o)
