Getting out

After having my right knee operated on just over 2 weeks ago I haven’t got out apart from hospital visits so Gerry took me out to Alport heights, one of the highest places around. It’s a sunshine and cloud day today but the temperature has dropped quite a bit. We sat in the car and saw Buzzards soaring, Kestrels hovering, flocks of crows and seagulls, and it was really refreshing to take in the beauty of the fields and Derbyshire landscape.
Gerry has cut down the few remaining plants ready for the winter, Looks like we are going to get some snow tonight but it won’t last long. We have the Blackbirds back again fighting for their territory. Haven’t seen them since the summer. The cyclamen that were in the pots last year, I planted in the flowerbeds are beginning to show buds. I have a few more in the pots adding a bit of colour to the garden. Haven’t seen any signs of the hedgehogs for a few weeks so presumably they have hibernated for the winter. Anyway Take care everyone. Linda.

Hi Stera, It's super to see the large birds of prey about. We don't get Jackdaws or Rooks here but plenty of Crows and Carrion Crows. I haven't seen a Wren for a few years now, don't know why, but we have a resident Robin who sings his little heart out. In the middle of Winter we always get Wagtails visiting the garden.
The wind is getting up and it's started to rain. The evenings draw in now don't they.

I'm glad you're able to get out to enjoy the country side Linda and hope you will soon be back to A1 healthwise ... Its a very windy cold day here I've been busy making sausage rolls for the freezer ... I promise not to mention the C word ....

It does you good to get out a bit even if not being able to walk far, just a change of scenery can give you a real boost. I hope your knee continues to improve over the coming weeks, you'll be chasing Gerry around next springtime and taking your share of the gardening chores back again...

Sounds like a lovely day Linda! You'll be foghting fit and ready to go when spring arrives. :)

Nice to get out after so many days indoors. I have a few friends that have had knee ops and they all say what a fantastic difference it made.

Glad you're on the mend Linda and a change of scenery helps so much doesn't it? Our resident birds are all returning to the bird table and the garden again more and more now and I'm sure the cold weather due this weekend will see more of them. We have quite a variety with starlings being by far the most prolific. My dad had both his knees done and it was amazing how it gave him a new lease of life after so much pain. I'm sure you're going to be leaping about like a youngster come spring ☺

Glad your knee op seems to have been successful,Linda..and I hope that is the last op for you now..It would feel lovely to get out and about, instead of a Hospital visit...We have only seen a female Blackbird this past week, first time for months..but we have lots of the tit families, plus the Robin..They are all visiting the feeders much more too..
take care, and I hope you continue to make good progress x

Thankyou everyone for all you caring thoughts it's lovely. I hope next year will be a good one and that we can get away for a good holiday. I am thankful to the hospital for the care they have given me and the wonderful skills of the surgeons. We had a carpet of snow early this morning and it is beginning to melt but the wind is ferocious.

I'm sure a holiday will do you both good, after this past couple of years,Linda..I think we all have a lot to thank our NHS for..So far no sign of any snow, which was forecast up on the hills, but it wasn't going to be anything significant anyway..luckily it is calm here,at the moment, but very cold..

Hello Linda - my OH has had his 2 knees done and can walk for miles again - he says you must do the exercises the physio gives you how ever much it hurts - this gives you the bend back in the knee - our birds are back on the feeders again and the blackbirds are back and visiting the sultana dish - enjoy your day - sunny and cold here in Shropshire today - Jane

Hi Bloomer The thin layer of snow is still hanging around and the wind is gusty. Lots of birds have been down to feed this morning. Thanks for sharing that Jane. I am doing my exercises, Gerry has made me a chart and I tick them off when done. Glad your OH is well again it gives me hope. I used to walk a lot and am hoping to get back out there again.
Hi Paul, Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi Linda, pleased to hear you're on the mend. My Mum had her knee operation scheduled for 1st October but was cancelled as her pre op blood tests showed she had low sodium so back to square one until the blood is right, was something to do with a water tablet she takes along side her blood pressure tablets. Get well soon.

Thanks Dawn. Hope your mum Gets her medication sorted and has her operation soon.

Thanks Klahanie, and Hywel. The bruising around the knee is slowly going . Hopefully if it gets warmer this week I shall be able to have some short walks with the use of crutches at the moment.......

Hi Wildrose and Maisie, Thanks you for your kind thoughts. Maisie I hope you get your knee sorted. I've had the two knees done and an elbow in just over a year and a half. Bionic or what!
23 Nov, 2015
i dose myself up with cod liver oil every day and that does help somewhat, especially my left elbow
23 Nov, 2015
Yes I take that as well Maisie. I also try to eat fish twice a week too.
24 Nov, 2015
Thanks Timmyh. Slowly but surely the pain is diminishing and the bruising going. I'm trying to walk a little bit more now to build the strength up in the legs.
28 Nov, 2015
Hi Timmyh, We have gusty winds and it's been raining. The temperature from day to day is up and down like a yo yo. Yesterday first thing it was 1 degree and this morning 7 degrees.

A day out like that is such a tonic - hope it did you good and that your knee continues to recover well. I saw a buzzard too this morning - it flew quite low over a lane I was driving along when I was coming back from town.Haven't seen blackbirds for a while but we get hoards of rooks and jackdaws - very noisy!
