This past week I’ve been getting into the garden for a very short while and I have had a tidy up including the pots. Two pots alongside the bungalow had ivy growing in them, and they didn’t look too good. It turned out that they were waterlogged, and when Gerry turfed out the ivy, their roots had blocked all the holes including growing into the tarmac, so they’ve bitten the dust.
Being as some of my pots, that I’ve had for a long while, had cracked I’m having a purge of getting rid of them.
There are lots of bulbs coming through now and the snowdrops have nearly had their day. They’ve been super this year. I’ve neatened up the bushes into some sort of shape, and it’s looking a lot better. I feel better for it too hoeing out the weeds and picking up the dead litter from the soil. Gerry has dug over the vegetable patch and has buried some compost from the bin into where the beans are eventually going. We went to a garden centre yesterday and had a look at the seeds we need. It was an awful day so at least we got out. Today it’s been glorious and we went for a walk this morning along the Cromford Canal. My legs are getting gradually stronger and I push myself a bit further each time we are out walking. Anyway take care everyone, and good gardening. Linda.

Now you have the best possible excuse to go and buy some more pots to replace the broken ones...
Good to hear your legs are strengthening - go steady!

Happy to read you're recovering well Linda. Be careful not to be too complacent take it easy. You're certainly not wasting the fine weather!

I have been busy tidying too Linda. It is hard work but bit by bit we will get there. Glad you are feeling better.

Well done for getting out there and getting on! I have been tackling similar jobs and I too have discovered a large blue pot that is water-logged .......a job for tomorrow perhaps? Mind you after the winter we have had most things in our garden are water-logged!!

I'm glad to know your legs are getting stronger Linda, and that you've been able to do some gardening.
My snowdrops are not out properly yet but the wild ones in the hedgerows are nearly over.

Good for you Linda..keep working those legs! I cant believe your snowdrops are almost done! Mine are just getting going...but thats Scotland for you. I'm quite enjoying the cold snap, its good to have a bit of real winter and so much better than all that dreadful stormy stuff. Ivy is so useful isnt it...but you cant take your eye off it or you're doomed! ;)

Hi HB I have decided to have less pots as it looks better in my small garden. I was surprised to find that many cracked ones though. I have some spare pots in the shed to replace some with. The weather hasn't been too good for gardening has it...so wet everywhere. I'm sure you'll catch up, plenty of time yet.

Thanks Sterra my legs still complain a bit but I'm much better than I was.
Thanks Waddy, yes I get out and about when it's fine. I'm cautious about going out in icy conditions but we haven't had much this winter.
Hi Linda you've been busy then too. It's lovely to hear all the birds singing.
Thanks Wildrose, Gerry planted a rose that I had in a tub, out into the garden as it had been waterlogged.
Thanks Hywel, it must be lovely to have wild snowdrops in the hedgerows.
Hi Ck, thanks, it's good to get some mobility back again and be able to potter in the garden, and get out walking.
It's really lovely to get some sunshine after all the dull days we've had.

Thanks Amy, We went for a stroll around the local gardens this morning but it's beginning to rain now. The geese were really loud near the river.

I'm glad to hear you are getting out and about and that you are getting stronger/better. You seem to be over the "hurdle" and on the way to recovery. Your garden is like a metaphor of your life - purging, improving, gradually taking shape; renewing. I'm inspired by your courage & perseverance.

Thanks Paul, yes I am slowly on the way up. It's really lovely to be out in the fresh air. I love to hear the birds singing and watch the changes that are happening as Spring approaches. Yesterday Gerry and I went to our local gardens by the river and we saw 5 Buzzards. I had the opportunity to fly one from the gauntlet at a show once, and it was amazing to see it fly towards me and land on my hand.
I fed the Robin in the park with mealworms, and a young family stopped to watch him eat them. There were lots of ducks, a pair of swans, and the geese were in full voice.

Being incapacitated for most of last year myself I fully understand how good you'd have felt being out in the garden and able to do things yourself, easy stages is the the way and easing yourself back into it in small doses as your knees get stronger,I'm really pleased for you Lindak, onwards and upwards, our weather itself decrees that we work that way as we just don't seem to get more than a couple of good days in a week so have to make the most of them...

I hope you are on the way up to better health Lin. Thanks for your kind thoughts. We managed to get round the park again today before it rained.

Glad to hear you are on the mend and getting out and about more easily. Everything is very waterlogged here still and more rain again today. I have done a little pottering but daren't step on to the lawn so everything is looking very bedraggled. In the woods the bluebells leaves are covering the ground and today I spotted a couple of little anemones up there - cheered me up :)

Thanks Gee. It's a sry and cold morning here 3 degrees. Lovely that you have bluebells coming up in the woods.
