Phew! What a DIY project.

Over the last 10 years I have posted photos of our old metal shed beside the pool….this was a halfway position between the front garden and the back.It only accommodated half of my garden tools etc and each time there was the trek to the garage for the lawn mower amongst other things.More importantly we just couldn’t keep it dry and it was collapsing in the middle. So we decided to take the bull by the horns and dismantle it.What a noisy job that was.The Ironman very kindly collected it along with the old tumble dryer. The first photo shows the old shed.

After much researching we chose a reinforced steel/rubber shed...6′×7.5′×6′ with apexed roof, window and flooring. It stands on a level concrete base. There are vents for circulation plus it’s lockable.
Only time will tell if we have made the right decision….we did consider a wooden version but decided there was too much fencing here, which requires upkeep.
The instructions said a two person job will take 2 hours!!! Never take that for granted…my OH and I took 7 hours on a rather cold day…our hands felt like icicles…gloves were impractical for screwing.

Now It is such a good feeling to be able to walk into the new shed and to have all the equipment close at hand.

I decided to change the colour of the fencing to Cubrinol ‘Urban slate’ which blends with the shed Wasn’t sure at first but it is growing on me..Some potted shrubs will be added later.Last year I was over enthusiastic with the blue/green staining. When the slabs are pressure washed and the Spring plants showing growth,I hope it will blend in more.

You ve both done a grand job it looks far nicer with the new shed and moving the position making it a part of a nice design with stones and plants it will look even better when your potted plants go in.

Terrific job! Looks great. Love your new blue fence colour too. Its very smart! Is your shed made from recycled tyres?

You have definitely made a good job Julia and hope the air wasn't too blue ! Hahaa! My daughter got one similar a few years ago and she built it with just the help from my granddaughter and it took most of the day, but it was worth it when it was finished.

A very good idea to buy a shed that wasn’t wooden .......I hate painting our three sheds, the next job to do ...when I have finished Annie Sloaning 8 dining chairs! It’s a good looking shed, and should last forever...
We used Urban Slate on our fence and gate in the front garden, really pleased with it, looks very smart and the certain colours bounce off it beautifully....will put a photo on, have been meaning to for ages now! great minds and all that!

That is a job well done. It looks wonderful. was it very expensive compared to a wooden one of a similar size? My daughter is after a shed. I do wonder where they get their suggested times from. probably a factory challenge with young fit chaps who spend all day building them.

I like the colour too.

It looks great, and what a sensible design too - no struggling to get big things through small doors. Don't you find that all self assembly things take a lot longer than the instructions say? Anyway it doesn't matter as long as the result's good, which it definitely looks as if it its.
i shall try not to think about it when repainting ours this spring...
