A few years ago I bought I bought a few pseudopamax in Cornwall. The vendor told me that I will have to cover them all winter as they will not survive the cold in the Chigwell, Essex area. I didn’t cover them at all and a few years later, they are still growing perfectly. Now they are 2 metres high. They are evergreen, beautiful small trees, looking a bit like me …lol!

Your microclimate obviously suits them, Mossy. I like the leaf shape and colours. We often go to Cross Common Nursery on the Lizard in Cornwall as they have a wonderful selection of less usual plants, and we rarely come home without a boot-full. I have had viburnum and osmanthus from them growing in my gardens but have not have enough nerve to test their wonderful half-hardy climbers and tropical plants in this very windy Wiltshire garden. I love visiting their greenhouses. I'm sure you will have visited?

We're back to The Lizard in May, Mossy, and often walk around Kynance and across Lower Predannack. It's such a special area and I think one of the least appreciated parts of Cornwall. No doubt we'll visit the Nurseries on the Lizard and around Helston. Perhaps I should be braver in my plant choices. Do you visit Burncoose? Wonderful for plant lovers.

Beautiful photo's.. It must be so peaceful in your garden Mossy, a proper haven to relax in, reminds me of some of the places I've seen when visiting the grand houses with their walled gardens and orangeries, you show that it can be done in even in a small place, plus you don't need a glass surround to grow them...

Wonderful plants Mossy. Some people who work in nurseries in Cornwall seem certain that the rest of the UK is too cold for their plants!

Kynance Cove is one of my favourite places, and how brilliant to stay in that little cottage .. have a great time 🙂.

Hope the cafe will be open for you Fabrice. Last time I was there, my younger son Steve tried to frighten me by climbing the cliffs (like a monkey) then I bought us coffee and cake 🙂.

I’m last to the party, but must agree, wonderful selection of lush plants, Mossy! Loving the shapes and textures and different evergreen colourings. I like the way your greenery all intermingles, the ferns and like. Just shows taking a leap of faith with plants...you can have years of lush and unexpected joy!
I can only imagine you’re very excited about heading to Cornwall soon! Haven’t been for years, but, I will return.
