So it wasn't strange cloud formations over Britain, it was clouds of Painted Ladies heading for your garden! None here in Kent today and no sunshine either :(

Thanks for the advice Bonkers. I've had a sign on my shed saying "Painted Ladies Welcome" for a few years now but no takers. Can't afford a Porsche but will try changing my socks. Do you think that will work?

thanx dawn, i think so to, :o)

You did brilliantly to catch this one BB, I tried but the Buddleja was waving about in the breeze and the butterfly was flapping around, complete disaster. You have the magic touch, perhaps I should have changed out of my working gear.

Thanks all - where to start ? Almost given up hope as no signs here of the clouds of them arriving this year.
He he Eileen think they went to posh places first so slumming it now .. that said cant believe Toto not seen painted ladies in Essex you need to get out of the shed more often lol
Sandra leaning on lamposts in Blackpool reminds me of someone my dad used to talk about ...
Aye same problem here Doc b till wind dropped.Less fibre in the diet helps too.

Beautiful Picture well caught love the Buddleia too.

I'm leaning on the lampost at the corner of the street
until a certain painted lady comes by
I'm a budliah
I try
until a certain painted lady comes by.
Don't know if it's my colouring
or perfume I give off
or if it's a man standing there
who thinks that he's a toff.
The butterfly
she flutters by
and lands and then takes off
All I do is flower well
my scent attracts the moth
I'm leaning on the lampost at the corner of the street
until a certain painted lady comes by.

Ah, Toto changing his socks at last and Lindak composing poetry. All human life is here! lol
Great shot Bb - I've had LOADS of these too this year, plus lots of peacocks and at least one red admiral. What I've not seen at all is the little tortoiseshells that are usually so common - wonder what's going on with those this year?
15 Aug, 2009
Funny that Sid...just seen a couple of small tortoiseshells in garden today.Lots and lots of whites and Painted Ladies. Its wonderful !
15 Aug, 2009
Seen plenty of different butterflies now. I was beginning to wonder where they all were.
16 Aug, 2009
Agree Lindak, have seen lots of them this week and just in time as the buddleias are going over here now !
16 Aug, 2009
Great photo BB!
Looks like a "butterfly bush"! I have one of those also and it is a "humming-bird magnet"! Nice!
17 Aug, 2009
Same here Bonkersbon the floweres are browning now, the berries on trees and shrubs seem to be early again in ripening this year too. It's raining at the moment but the weathermen say we are going to have a reasonable few days.
17 Aug, 2009
I deadhead by budlehja to prolong flowering....
17 Aug, 2009
