This picture of one of our local castles - was actually taken by a family member a couple of years ago but right now it looks exactly like this. I thought I would take this opportunity to wish all Goyers a Happy Christmas and a prosperous 2010

It is called Dunnottar Castle and is visited by thousands of visitors every year.
If you Google dear old Wikipedia - you will get all the history...and it has a lot!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunnottar_Castle
Most famously though, it was at Dunnottar Castle that a small garrison held out against the might of Cromwell’s army for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the ‘Honours of Scotland’, from destruction. Crown, sceptre and sword now take pride of place in Edinburgh Castle. The Regalia was in fact secreted away by a local woman and hidden for many years in a nearby church.
If you ever think of visiting it - be warned....there are HUNDREDS of STEEP steps to negotiate before you even reach the door.....and then a few hundred more within the ruins....eeeek! It is a labour of love going there and I have to confess I have only managed it a very few times - and probably will never make it again....unless they employ helicopters...LOL

Sounds very interesting and not far from us. Would have to give up the fags before I get up all those steps though!

EEEK...I though you were over on the west. Skillen...in the Glasgow area...some 130 miles away. Maybe I got that wrong. This is just 15 miles south of Aberdeen.
As for the steps - they really are something else..I did it last year with a German friend who was visiting and vowed never again...LOL
Hi Milky....hope you have a super time over the Festives too. Cxx

That's how the bookmakers have always judged it when paying out on white christmas bets Sandra.
24 Dec, 2009
Yes folks, I did know - and I hear it is only Aberdeenshire that is evens on winning the bet tomorrow......pity I don't bet.:<<<((((
24 Dec, 2009
They've, evidently had to pay out in a few cities but the bookies are relieved no snow in London because, according to William Hill's, that's where they'd lose most money!!

Brilliant picture Alz, Happy New Year

Thank you Yorkshire.....had enough of the white stuff though!! It is lethal underfoot now with these sustained sub-zero temps...had to rescue a couple of OAP chums today that were totally housebound as their paths were like mirrors with ice....so helped myself from the Council's salt/grit bins this morning and took buckets of it to them so they could get out their doors! Worked a treat too! If it wasn't for my Discovery - I wouldn't be out either!! The dogs hate the ice - they are too old to enjoy skating!!! So am I...lol

Aye your probably right Alz - a bit far for a day trip!
