A Christmas Day visitor! The Blue-Winged Kookaburra (Dacelo leachii)

Amazing picture Bernieh, you certainly have some beautiful wildlife, :-)

Simbad ... it was a pleasure to see this gorgeous thing. As I stated under the photo, the kookaburras we get around my house are the Laughing Kookaburras ... we don't get many of the Blue-Winged ones, so it was a delight to have this one come up so close to us!

Thanks Carol and Holly ... he is lovely. The blue doesn't come out as brilliantly in the photo as it was in real life ... but it does give you some idea of their fabulous colouring.

Yes we do take it all for granted a bit BB ... we are very lucky to be able to see the amount of wildlife we do ... and the great variety of it as well. These beauties are such a lovely thing to see up close.

It's one of our kingfishers Jbardet ... and very special to us ... right up there with the koalas and kangaroos.

Thanks Milky, Janey, TT and Jacque ... it is a great looking kookaburra ... doesn't have that same great call as the Laughing Kookaburra but I think these are a bit more attractive!
