Superb shot. I nearly(but not quite) got a photo of one on my fat balls today. I shall keep an eye out(and my camera at hand) tomorrow. I've seen the tits around quite a bit this winter and I wonder if they are assessing the suitabilitty of my nesting box which i moved in the autumn as it had been in the front garden for 4 or 5 years with no residents, So, fingers crossed!

Fantastic Deida! I wonder where he was going on that ball...Lol!

I read last week, that the mesh covering to these fat balls can result in birds getting their feet caught in them.
Also read about a bird getting its mouth or tongue caught up :-/

Thanks Paul..and fingers crossed..Have you moved the box (back Garden)?
Thanks Janey, lol
Louise we can't have that..off it comes..thanks for that..most appreciated

Yes, Deida, it's now wedged in a small tree in the back garden. I'm hoping for lodgers!

Someone told me that to encourage the birds to a box place a bit of sphagnum moss at the hole. Worth a try.

Warms the cockles to see the little soul feeding in the snow, what a lovely photo! :)

Could try that Linda. In the past I have put bits of coir(from the linig of a hanging basket) but without success

Thank you Limpet

Paul I think for small birds they do actually use spag moss because it is easy to mould into shape and it's soft. I think that they use small grasses as well..

I'll try, thanks Linda.
