In the bed around the three birch trees.

In the bed around the three birch trees. (Iris reticulata (Iris))

It's a mass of purple and blue today. Most of the buds opened and it's a real picture!

I can only echo Karen's words above "Absolutely stunning. Gone to faves! " They really are a stunning show & would stop anybody in their tracks to have a better look!

I'm so pleased you all like my irises. I bought some more yesterday - one I hadn't already got, called 'Edward'. It'll be interesting to see what colour he is when he opens. ;-)

I've planted lots all down the narrow border by the path - they'll be a lovely welcoming sight to see when anyone comes in.

Stunning Barbara ..really beautiful , Mine are still in bud , will your border ones flower this year or will you have to wait until next year ? .

6 Feb, 2011

Very nice, so they do come again? remember last year when we saw Gardeners World and Carol implied they were annuals.

6 Feb, 2011

The bulbs can split into tiny bulbils so it can take a couple of years for them to grow back to flowering size (with some thinning out). They're cheap enough to buy new bulbs each year if you find they don't come back.

Ah, but Carol was wrong on this one. I have some that have flowered every year since I planted them - that was four years ago. All the ones in this bed were planted last year and have flowered equally as well as they did last spring.

Amy, the ones I planted as bulbs in the path border are almost at the flowering stage. They don't get as much sun there as this bed, which explains why they're a lttle behind the others.

I shall indeed buy more in the autumn - I get them in bulk, and I'd like a mass of them wherever it's possible. :-)

You will soon be having another splended show to follow the first then Barbara and yes I agree they do flower each year , I know mine do . :-)

I wonder if Carol's don't - and she's speaking from experience, or did she read it somewhere without knowing what we know?
