4 Mar, 2012

Is that one of those Squirrelproof feeders Stickie, hahaha i love it...

4 Mar, 2012

That's brilliant, Sticki! You're obviously not feeding them enough! ;o).

4 Mar, 2012

*s* lends new meaning to "you're going inside for a long stretch".

I have a squirrel proof feeder like that, and, also like that, there's no catch on the lid, it just flips open. Thinking of tying some wire round the knob on the lid and tying it down; wonder how long it'd take them to work it out?

4 Mar, 2012

you have some very clever Squirrels Sticki ! I remember the other one, loosening the tie on the top ,or chewing through it ! Lol...Bet it's the same one, testing you ..:o)

4 Mar, 2012

I laughed aloud when I saw this pic, Sticki! ... I would love to see it reversing out too .......

4 Mar, 2012

4 Mar, 2012

4 Mar, 2012

yes YDD it is a 'squirrel proof' feeder!!!!
sorry Oji ~ maybe i will get a bigger tube next time!!!
fran ~ there is wire round the top ~ they took that off first!!
bloomer ~ there were 3 this morning ~ two could get inside but the third just sat at the bottom, not sure what to do ~ or worrying that he/she might not get out??
Shirley ~ it was tricky for one of them ~ but the back feet are helping!!
Pixi ~ they are extremely cheeky! but i like them.
Pansy ~ one very nearly did!!!

Crafty little thing LOL.. I took some pics of mine yesterday, they actually broke a branch off to get it on the floor !

4 Mar, 2012

That's hiliarious, Sticki, I think I'll save my money and not buy one of those feeders :)

4 Mar, 2012

ooh, 'eck! maybe I need a padlock

4 Mar, 2012

amy, i have watched them ripping off the wires or plastic that attaches feeders to the line i have them on, as well as any lid!
i think that may be best Gee ~ i thought about sending the photo to the manufacturers!
they will still try to bite that through fran ~ and if its a number coded one i bet they could work that out given time!!!

I have a square feeder for suet or toast; it was hanging on an S-hook on the wire mesh fence. Noticed it was missing one day, looked round for it - finally saw it on the other side of the fence, on the grass. I had to tie some string to the hook, stand on a stepladder and fish for it. They'd not only got it off the hook, but completely over a six-foot fence!

I started tying all the feeders to the fence with bits of clothes line - not easy to tie but hopefully just as hard to untie. they stayed in place, but still got raided or tge wires bitten though. Not put them out for ages; don't want to encourage them back into the garden where they'll vandalise my plants.

Think I'll buy some chicken wire and make a cage, see if that keeps the little so-and-so's out - or just cage in the whole garden!

Smart Squirrel! lol....:))))))) very funny, much laughter!

4 Mar, 2012

now that's a cheeky chap !!!

4 Mar, 2012

glad he made you laugh karen!
before the level of nuts got this low they used to sit on the top with one paw inside getting out the nuts ~ now they have to reach further ~ very cheeky SL!!!

4 Mar, 2012

I don't know why I've put like as the little devils have just about eaten every bulb in sight this year!

4 Mar, 2012

is that why i have less tete a tete daffodils than i thought??

4 Mar, 2012

Lol! Excellent, I'd have banged on the window and watched it come out like a panicked champagne cork, well caught :D

4 Mar, 2012

one was stuck for a while so i got a few photos but they went in so many times it was easy to get the picture ~ just for enough seconds they are held still by the feeder!!!

if i want them to run away i only have to open the door! but its too tempting to take pictures instead!

4 Mar, 2012

Lol....:>)

4 Mar, 2012

Funniest thing I've seen in ages I would send in a photo to the manufacturers Sticks....... squirrel proof my***** eye ! lol

4 Mar, 2012

was funny watching them Motinot and Val!! you would laugh, you cant be cross!!

4 Mar, 2012

Come on Sticki own up.......what did you have to bribe him with to pose for that pic? I bet it wasn't peanuts LOL

4 Mar, 2012

i said he could be in a book called Nutkin??!!

4 Mar, 2012

So what was the camera & your position set up? This would suggest you can get good bird shots on the same feeder....

4 Mar, 2012

On full zoom taken through the window but the birds never come to this feeder!

5 Mar, 2012

Well you've won half the battle, great! Maybe a targeted feeder? Suet blocks or a coconut half is a never-fail.

5 Mar, 2012

Ok, I have those, I can try moving one of them to here.

5 Mar, 2012

Look forward to birdie pics :) Try and get the rhythm of their peck & watch so you click when their head is down and by the time the focus is confirmed and the picture is taken it has captured them looking around. I 'lead' like this to get my pics.

5 Mar, 2012

Hmmm, quite a challenge! May be a while!

5 Mar, 2012

I have confidence in you!

5 Mar, 2012

AMAZING!!

5 Mar, 2012

lol enjoy them ladies , im afraid they are just plain pests ,they do a lot more bad things than good things im afraid ,sorry to be a bore but they kill too many nests & young birds in my eyes , oops i will get my coat lol

5 Mar, 2012

i dont have that much confidence 7
Incredible aren't they costas
tanjipete, i know they are pests really but attractive none the less and therefore easier to forgive???

5 Mar, 2012

Lol sticki what a cheeky little so and so. Brilliant picture mind.

5 Mar, 2012

oh thanks sam, he is cheeky but i dont mind.

5 Mar, 2012

This photo beats all.......The body of houdini, the determination of an adventurer, and a good feed at the end of it all!!!!!

5 Mar, 2012

nice summing up ~ thanks linda!!!

5 Mar, 2012

;0) I had one of these feeders and it didn't get used by anything so I gave it to the rag and bone man.

5 Mar, 2012

i wonder why the birds dont like it??

5 Mar, 2012

Hi Sticki you gave me a laugh, i think that is the most cheekyest squirrel i have ever seen hehe :)

5 Mar, 2012

Amy has some cheeky ones too but there were two doing this!!! glad it made you laugh sue!!

5 Mar, 2012

ok sticki i forgive it lol

6 Mar, 2012

Sticki I suggest that you send this photo to the manufacturer and say Your product isn't squirrel proof.

6 Mar, 2012

Thanks pete
Sorry Linda I can't remember who made this one now, I have had it a while.

6 Mar, 2012

various similar types are around, I presume from variuous makers,

We need a high-profile awareness exercise! Anyone know anyone on a national newspaper who'd do an article on the "squirrel-proof bird feeder ripoff"?

People buy this feeder rather than that one just because it's labelled "squirrel-proof". Is there a set standard of "squirrel-proof-ness" that they have to test their product against before they can so label it? It's like labelling stuff "eco-friendly" or "fair trade" with no guidedlines to justify their claim.

*s* Squirrels only get away with it because they're "cute"! If they were ugly, who'd put up with them?

6 Mar, 2012

I never got away with anything cos im not cute so im letting the squirrels off ~ they entertain me!!!

6 Mar, 2012

lol me neither.

6 Mar, 2012

:-)

6 Mar, 2012

lol they seem to get at anything sticki haha, glad he got out though :o))

7 Mar, 2012

eventually he did!!! after a bit of scrabbling!!!

7 Mar, 2012

already inside!

9 Mar, 2012

He has nearly eaten all the peanuts now Junna!!!

9 Mar, 2012

love it, antics of squirrels better than watching the tv, in fact think i get more value out of the birds and squirrels £ for £ in nuts/seed/fatballs than i do out of the tv licence! Mind you somedays no sooner filled feeders up seem to turn my back and a flashmob comes and they are empty again! Bit like wildflowers some see them as weeds and same with wildlife in gardens some wage war where as i'd rather sit back and enjoy the show!

9 Mar, 2012

i do agree maezy!! lovely to see flowers and squirrels!! delightful!
