What a lovely treat you had Sticki....they are so cute aren't they?
Is the yellowing possibly due to the colour of the amniotic fluid?

I think that is so touching. I was born and brought up in the country and can remember the first time I saw a new baby. The cat had had a litter in the shed and we were taken out to see them. Poor naked little things. My grandfather had a sow and we saw her give birth and the cows but I was in my teens before I saw lambs being born. I had been ill and went to stay on an estate in the Borders. The man of the house was a shepherd and I was allowed to help with bringing the sheep inside to the lambing pens and feeding babies where the ewe was not able to cope with more than two. The babies were kept in a woolley jumper lined box in front of the Aga in the kitchen and we seemed to feed them non stop using babies milk bottles.

It was a real treat Scottish, I loved it.

Scotsgran there were quite a lot of children there which I thought was fabulous; there were two orphan lambs, one big and tough the other, tiny, the third of a triplet, about as big as a rabbit!

It is such an exciting time but lots of hard work and very long hours for the farmers just now. Did the kids get to feed the babies. I watched a programme on tv recently and when asked where veg came from children had no idea. These open days are wonderful if people take their children along.

There was one you could hold and one lad was feeding the tiny one, he was obviously part of the farming family because he also helped one of the lambs to be born.

Its all hands tothe pump at lambing time. The kids on the farm love it.

thats what i thought mark!! :-)

could the yellow be from the amniotic fluid that they're surrounded with in the womb? presumably the wool would soak some of it up and it'd take time to wear out.

22 Apr, 2012

I don't know fran, quite possible but I couldn't understand why one was like this but not the other??

22 Apr, 2012

aww wonderfull pic sticki :o))

23 Apr, 2012

from the same mum, Sticki? maybe one was born a bit earlier and the colour faded down to the roots, while the other was still newborn enough to have it on the surface?

:=) just chalk it up to mysterious nature!

yes fran, i watched a few 'twins' being born and sometimes i think it was the first that was yellower and sometimes the second one, not sure about that now though.
