Orange Geum Mrs Bradshaw?

Yes, that's a perfect contrast for our grey skies Janey! Isn't it gorgeous? A happy accident. Now you can go and buy Mrs Bradshaw in flower and you'll know its the right one! Mind you...the Mrs Bradshaw, bottom right on this page looks quite orange too!

My Mrs Bradshaw is definitely red and flowers for ages. How tall is your geum Janey? I love that little bud too, so perfect:-)

Ba, only about 6ins. I bought it early spring, and it's still only tiny. I used to have a yellow one which made a decent size and the flowers were on stems at
least 12 ins high.

Well no not really Tt....my lovely yellow one died when I moved it, and this is a newish one, I don't think this cold wet weather suits them, they like free draining soil and SUNSHINE.....do you think anyone can hear that...Lol!

The mystery grower who has acres of free-draining soil and a sunny site must have the most wonderful garden. Lol. ;o)

I find they don't like to dry out lol:-) I have about 8-10 different ones ranging in colour from pinkish to a gentle lemon, through orange to red and they seem to like it here. I would think Mrs Bradshaw would thrive anywhere. She gets massive very quickly:-)

Terra, since the makeover I'm not sure as I had a lot of new soil shipped in. It certainly has never been alkaline, but possibly towards the neutral. It's not too heavy although I live in a mainly clay area. All my geums appear to like sun, rivale being in my little bog garden. I think you will succeed with Mrs Bradshaw anywhere though, she seems a tough old boot of a plant and very floriferous if you want red, her leaves are nothing to write home about though. I tried to count yesterday and find I have at least 10 different ones (got a bit obsessed last year:-)

Yes it does Simbad, definitely one of the 'alpine' types. None of my geums are in flower yet, except small pale lemon one, possibly lemon drops, but can't find label, you're way ahead of here:-)

I love geums and find they do well in my often wet garden. I rushed out to look at my Mrs Bradshaw but couldn't find her - I will look again when the weather has improved :)

Definitely not Mrs Bradshaw Amy, Mrs B grows 18"-2' high and this is only short. If it is G. Borisii (which it resembles) it tops RHS list of perfect pollinators:-)

It's similar to yours isnt it Simbad, but maybe not quite so small, maybe a cross between the alpine and the standard ones.
I wondered that too Amy, the soil here is more alkaline than acidic, and it hasn't had anything added for quite a while, I'm sure it just had a wrong label when I bought it.

I have exactly the same one Janey,on looking in a plant book it look's a bit like coccineum?,mine is growing away quite happily in a mixed border( poppy's wallflower's geranium's).It's lovely orange colour is a welcome sight :-))

Yes that's it Mavis.....it is the same one I've decided as Simbads, I think it's called coccineum borisii, mine is a new plant, I'm sure it will grow stronger and larger...:)

Mine was a Morrison's £1 perennial, bought last summer, it has grown well, it has about eight flower's and more to come,it is doing canny, sheltered a little by the wallflower's :-))

I have just bought Geum 'Koi' it looks exactly the same as your picture Janey.

Mine is coming on too now Mavis, with all this rain then the very warm sunny spells.
I reckon there are so many orange Geums Dd....a popular colour this year for sale. It does look like yours, but then it could be the same as yours Pimpers....whichever, I really like it!....:o))

Just checked the Koi Pimpers, and yes I would say its this...not quite so vivid as yours Dd.....you could almost say its carp coloured...:o)

I have tried to grow these but not had much success (clay soil) ALthough we have improved the soil with plenty of compost over the last three years so perhaps I'll have another go.

They really are worth a try Linda, I used to have a beautiful yellow one that made a huge clump, but I moved it to a better spot, or so I thought, it certainly wasn't happy and died...:((
