Its a passionflower pixi
15 May, 2012
which one is it? I have 5 now all doing nothing!
15 May, 2012
this is caerulea passiflora, i expect its quite a common one ~ i bought it in a flower shop!
15 May, 2012
I dont know yet how i will get on with it pimms, it came with buds on which is cheating really. do they need warmth?
15 May, 2012
A good sunny spot will help those buds to open sticki. I think it sensible to buy when in flower if you don't know the plant.
15 May, 2012
i will let you into a secret ~ i wanted it so i could take photos of the flower!! i find them incredible, just love them. i have 2 small ones that im trying to grow but they will take another year to have flowers on and im not that patient ~ well not when i walk past this in the flower shop.
15 May, 2012
Mine will take another year at least I think..Just as well I like the leaves.
15 May, 2012
thats true they are attractive arent they ~ how long have you had yours?
15 May, 2012
I got Constance Elliot as a gift (cutting) in late september last year..the others I bought in february
15 May, 2012
oh that is a really lovely one, it was too much money in the garden centre so i left it there!!
my little ones i bought in feb/march.
stevietheterrible grows them Im sure he will know more.
15 May, 2012
How lovely :)))))))) I'd like one but ..where to put it lol
15 May, 2012
same problem here pixi but i wasnt letting a little practical problem like that get in the way of that beautiful flower!!!

I too find the passion flower incredibly compelling! When i moved here I planted a white one on the shady fence but it didn't do well...too cold and windy. So it went. But now I have my new 'indoor' one in the conservatory. If we would only get some warm sunshine I'm sure it would soon be flowering, but it seems frozen in time at the moment. Growing, but sooooooo slooooooowly!
15 May, 2012
how long has it been in the conservatory karen? im wondering if i will do that with this one ~ i dont have a conservatory but i have a room with a big window??
15 May, 2012
Sticki, if it is Cerulaea....which it looks like..it will be fine outdoors, and even if a really bad frost knocks it back you can just cut it back to green and it will regrow really quickly in the spring. Mine is a more tender one....in fact I would only grow Cerulaea outdoors here, but I did have one at my old garden and honestly, it was in the coldest, windiest passage of the garden but every autumn it was covered with beautiful blooms. If you really want to take it indoors it will need a lot of space....they are very vigorous and mine used to grow about 6m every year!
15 May, 2012
6 metres???? i didnt realise that!!! ok, will have to hope, will probably put it in a pot initially so i can move it round to get the sun. not sure how long it could stay in the pot though!!
15 May, 2012
mine are in large pots Stick...and will have to like it or else...I know of some that have been in pots for a decade and not really looked after that are doing Ok.
15 May, 2012
what do you use to support them pimms?
15 May, 2012
I love these as well ,they almost look to exotic for our climate I have recently bought one called ' White lightening ' it's my second one , the one I bought last year didn't survive the winter ;o( I had a purple one for many years , it actually grew so big and tangled it finally had to be removed from where it was , it use to have large orange fruits on it in the autumn
15 May, 2012
sounds lovely amy, as does the white lightening, i probably would have chosen white but it wasnt available.!
did you ever use the fruits?
15 May, 2012
I have white Lightening as well..Just cobbled together some canes for now Sticki if they do well I will put up perminant trellis for them.
15 May, 2012
oh, ok, thanks.
please put some photos on when it comes out.
15 May, 2012
This is gorgeous - it compliments the colours in your mosiac picture perfectly Sticki - good luck with it. I hope it enjoys your garden :))
15 May, 2012
i hope so too, thanks scottish
15 May, 2012
I bought one caerulea `Constance Elliot` with ivory white flowers last year and I thought it hadn`t survived the winter but have just noticed its covered with new growth so hopefully should flower again this year.
15 May, 2012

15 May, 2012
It is so exotic -so much going on in one flower!
15 May, 2012

16 May, 2012
No Sticki I didn't use the fruits ,I'm not even sure if you can but they made an attractive feature after the flowers in the autumn ........
16 May, 2012
yes i bet they did!! they sell passion fruit in the super market ~ is it a different type do you think ~ in the same way as there are crab apples and ordinary apples??
16 May, 2012
Beautiful
16 May, 2012
We used to grow this, in fact it is still there hanging on, tried to take it out, they go mad get enormous, we used to cut it to the ground, and up it would come, I am very partial to the fruits, not to every ones taste though......your photo is beautiful, this one is the easiest one to grow the others are very tender and more suited to a conservatory...I hope it does well for you.
16 May, 2012
Thank you clarice and thanks DD, I didn't know this was the easiest, that's good!
17 May, 2012
You might not be saying that a few years down the line lol
17 May, 2012
things dont generally grow very big in this garden ~ maybe its the shade but i take your point DD ~ do the flowers generally only stay open for 2 days?
17 May, 2012
I love these Stickitoffee - I have one in pot in front of shed - hoping this week's warmer weather brings it out
21 May, 2012

21 May, 2012
