What to do when its too cold to garden...

What to do when its too cold to garden...

I treated myself to this wooden puzzle ~ not sure if you can see but the pieces are all sorts of shapes, including some 'whimsy' pieces such as a tractor, a sheep, a tree etc.
This is where I would like to live!
So when its too cold to garden ~ stay indoors and dream!

its a lovely jigsaw sticki, i could live there to, so cosy :o))

15 Jan, 2013

thanks Paul and San, its pretty isnt it ~ and i love it being cosy but being able to see the water out of the window ~ maybe a lake or the sea?

15 Jan, 2013

Will you invite me to that sunny room, too? :))

15 Jan, 2013

yes looks like a lake sticki, idyllic i thinks :o)))

15 Jan, 2013

That´s nice that the puzzle is from wood. You have now beautiful picture. I didn´t see wooden puzzle here. I will have to start mine puzzle, which is still in a box.

15 Jan, 2013

Thats the place to be I wish i lived there too Sticki. We can always dream :0)

15 Jan, 2013

Very good idea Sticki, lovely one too.

15 Jan, 2013

Very nice picture on your jigsaw Sticki, I have it as a glass work top, I bought it for my Mother's kitchen, but it now graces mine!

15 Jan, 2013

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a photo of your living room, Sticki! (I'm sure your room's just as nice) It's a lovely jigsaw - the shapes are interesting. Is that a Samurai in the top right corner - no, they don't wear pads, do they? :-)) It's ok - I can see it's a batsman... The cake looks good, by the way.

15 Jan, 2013

Thank you everyone, yes Katarina, if it was mine you could come to spend time in it! I love wooden puzzles ~ I think they are really a treat to do.
idyllic ~ dream like ~ i agree San
Yes Sue ~ nice dream!
Thanks DD, I did enjoy it! Even if I should have been doing boring housework instead!
Oh Neellan how lovely ~ its a Stephen Darbishire picture ~ you can get cards and of course the paintings ~ if you are rich!!
How I wish it was Melchi! There are a couple of cricketers in there and someone playing bowls, there is even a hedgehog!!
I think I might be doing this a few times Homebird

Im really tempted to buy the christmas scene one they also have but Im trying not to!!!

Lovely welcoming room in an old country cottage, and the animals look very content. What's for tea?
Are you going to stick this puzzle all together from the back and frame it Sticki?

16 Jan, 2013

I think it's toast and cake and bluebells for tea Linda!!

My parents once put a 3000 piece puzzle on sticky back paper for the owner to see it, he had never seen it made up, it had no picture with it! But my puzzle didn't take long to put together, I shall just do it again one day soon!

16 Jan, 2013

What fun! I've never before seen such a puzzle with challenging shapes . . . nice one Sticki :))

16 Jan, 2013

I love it Sheila, I had a feeling you might like it ~ its not difficult but you could easily add to the challenge by getting more pieces [they cost more though]

16 Jan, 2013

It's such a cosy idyllic picture..puss cat rather like Minty! Dog should have been a Sluggy pup though!!
I like the idea of getting our own made. Jessops used to make jigsaws out of photos but they gone bust!
I haven't made a jigsaw in years. I like big, difficult ones as mosaicing makes it easier for me to spot the right pieces!!

16 Jan, 2013

Not a jigsaw fan myself Sticki, but it's a lovely picture and I wouldn't mind living there too:-)

16 Jan, 2013

Go on, Sticki - treat yourself! We've got a huge jigsaw of Neuschwanstein Castle in the snow that OH stuck on sticky back. It looks very effective like that, but it's too big to hang anywhere!

16 Jan, 2013

Bit like your cottage lulu ~ looking out a wonderful view! Yes should have been a Jazzy, Pru and/or Sluggy.
fancy a piece of that cake BA?

Im so tempted Melchi ~ this one was being discontinued so I thought i had an excuse ~ the christmassy one will be available still though.

16 Jan, 2013

Good job Sticki...we can all dream can't we? lovely cottage but the view is what really makes it isn't it? I've been browsing Hayloft's latest catalogue today...some gorgeous plants in there.....another thing to do when it's too cold out side.

I love jigsaws and have a box of those tricky 3 dimension ones to keep the Grandchildren occupied , some of the others have shapes in them for instance one has jungle animal shapes in it even though the jigsaw is of a train , we have one thick wooden jigsaw that says from 3 years old , well it was something of a party game because it took absolutly ages for us grown ups to do it lol ....

16 Jan, 2013

Never seen a 3 D jigsaw...the mind boggles! Literally!

16 Jan, 2013

It's a funny thing isn't it? I love jigsaw puzzles, but the thought of a 3d one.....no thanks! lol. I think that's why I'm so bad at sewing as well...I can't do 3d, my brain is like Lulu's it just can't cope!

16 Jan, 2013

yes i love that view karen ~ love the colours too!
I try not to look at too many plants right now ~ i might be tempted to buy the wrong thing at the wrong time ~ i probably should look and plan but im hopeless at that!

I have seen but never done a 3D jigsaw ~ I have seen a spherical map/globe and those wooden puzzles ~ are they the type Amy? but I also know what you mean about the type for 3 year olds, when i worked at playgroup sometimes it took ages to put the puzzles away!

I like the type of puzzle that you can almost intuitively put pieces in the right place because of the colour matching and secondly shape. This one is like that.

Next challenge then lulu! Your mosaics are like a 2D puzzle ~ but the one on a brick ~ is that 3D?

16 Jan, 2013

i cant do 3D ~ cant visualise space or furniture, cant think ahead for maps etc etc

I'm not sure that I have described them very well , sorry , we have had some in the shape of apples etc .and some that when they were finished are in the shape of for instance an animal also some that are in layers you have to complete one layer before starting on the next ,these are mostly in a nice wood , you can buy some lovely ones at craft fairs but they are very expensive ....

17 Jan, 2013

sounds really lovely Amy ~ you dont have a photo do you?

17 Jan, 2013

I know someone who does massive 3d buildings! Life's too short:-)

17 Jan, 2013

Oh, you don't mean a builder then BA? Come to think of it, in a way that's exactly what they do - 3D puzzles all day in brick!

17 Jan, 2013

Gerry's just completed the Neuchtwanstein castle jigsaw. It took him five days to complete. Its like a fairy castle and the sky is yellow and orange. He gets his puzzles from the charity shop.

18 Jan, 2013

That sounds like quite a challenge Linda!
I have bought puzzles from the charity shop before now and also donated them, I think it's a good idea, puzzles are expensive!

18 Jan, 2013

Ours has a vast, uniformly pale blue sky. It got put away (carefully, in completed sections) and finished when the patience had been topped up!

18 Jan, 2013

Ah ~ i have done that a few times melchi ~ i get fed up with having to sort through every piece trying each one when the colour is exactly the same ~ i take them to my mum ~ she finishes them!!!
I found some puzzle makes much worse for that problem than others.

18 Jan, 2013

My daughter's the one with patience for doing puzzles like that. She once completed a very large one of the Titanic. But each piece was part of a different picture - the whole thing was actually a collage. How she sussed it all out, I do not know. (I think she used a magnifying glass on the picture on the box.) That sort of thing is not a huge source of pleasure to me! And it lay on the hearthrug for a couple of weeks while she did it!

18 Jan, 2013

no, not my idea of leisure time either im afraid! i like a challenge thats suitable for me!!! not an impossibility!

18 Jan, 2013

That's a real beauty, Sticki! I try to buy a new jigsaw puzzle from a charity shop each time I come back to the UK (you don't often see them here) and during Christmas, keep it set up on a board near the Christmas tree, and everyone who wanders past can add a few more pieces, but this year I didn't do it. I can't remember the last time I saw a wooden one.
This idyllic scene appeals to me so much, despite the fact that it isn't so far from how the house we live in now looks.
How are you all coping in your dreadful weather? We have quite deep snow here (60cms), and getting around isn't very easy, but the sun is out, and everything looks gorgeous. I'm still counting the days until the Spring, though.

18 Jan, 2013

I havent had to go to work today Gattina ~ I would have got there ok ~ before the snow ~ but now its 7" deep so getting home would have been a bit tricky ~ good think i had a holiday owing!!!!

I used to set up puzzles like that ~ I think its a nice idea but no one seemed to help put any pieces in ~ this one is small ~ I didnt need help!!!! I do love it though, thanks Gattina

18 Jan, 2013

I could live there aswell.

18 Jan, 2013

wish i had one of those nice cosy fires right now! thanks clarice

18 Jan, 2013

Snap so do i :))

18 Jan, 2013

would be lovely wouldnt it ~ and that view of blue sky wouldnt be bad either!

18 Jan, 2013

Forgot what blue sky looks like nearly.

18 Jan, 2013

i just painted my bedroom wall in a variety of blue ~ so I can try to remember it ~ might be more blue on the wall than the sky!!!

18 Jan, 2013

:))))

18 Jan, 2013

Everywhere I go in Italy, I keep getting asked what the weather is like in England, and how you are all coping, and whether we ever think of coming back to the UK. They seem inordinately proud of the fact that they cope in much worse conditions. They seem to forget that here, although the snow is deeper, and lasts longer, and it's generally much colder, it's also much, much drier and brighter, and THAT makes so much difference. Knowing that we're going to be getting the same every year and councils are adequately equipped to deal with it is also important. Still not sure they quite grasp the difference.............

18 Jan, 2013

That, of course, is the essence of our weather problems Gattina. Not knowing within the space of three days what is going to happen. We are hoping to go to Glasgow tomorrow for our daughter's 30th. But we shan't be making the decision about travel until tomorrow. Our eldest is in London, not knowing whether he will be able to fly up or not (he must be back in London for Monday am) so the indecision is part of the problem. Here in Sefton we get very little snow, yet two years ago we experienced the coldest temperature in the UK with snow lasting way beyond anywhere else. Of course, people were outraged that the council only had one snowplough available, but one can understand why that is the case. And people constantly bemoaning that we never made a fuss about the weather 30 years ago forget that nowadays many more people travel a considerable distance to get to work, so any disruption affects thousands more.

18 Jan, 2013

What a nice job , and I agree i also do it myself especially in my free time :-))))

18 Jan, 2013

thanks junna ~ free time ~ i like that!!!

18 Jan, 2013

Now isn't that the perfect indoor scene? :-)

I like jigsaws with the special shapes in them, it was a good one to get!

18 Jan, 2013

I love doing jigsaws too, but I also thought it was a picture of your home when I saw the thumbnail. It's lovely, just the thing for nasty days like these when we're forced to stay indoors most of the time. I've seen wooden ones before but never seen one with different shapes. Interesting and challenging! Well done for completing it.

18 Jan, 2013

thanks wildrose ~ i love it ~ i have a few birthday cards painted by this artist and really like his pictures.

i could only dream of a house like that waddy ~would be really nice.

this wasnt difficult ~ because its so well made you can match the colours ~ thats the sort i like, but thank you

18 Jan, 2013

I see you have the table all set for me, what time do you want me?.
A lovely hobby, just right to fill the time when the weathers bad.

18 Jan, 2013

oh, anytime you like stroller ~ i think that table is permanently ready to welcome visitors ~ for tea and cake!
