Miracle Corydalis

Many thanks Bjs ~ this beautiful little plant has proved to be miraculous! Last week it was under two inches of snow, it had got as far as the buds just showing colour when down came the snow! Today ~ here it is ~ you would never know it had been covered in snow and ice for over a week!

Lovely to have survived the snow.

9 Apr, 2013

there is unbelievably still snow around here ~ further up the hill and i can see some in the neighbours garden!

9 Apr, 2013

They are certainly tougher than they look.....lovely plant, one of my OHs favourites.

9 Apr, 2013

I'm always amazed at plants that survive such weather, and that some actually need it to come back the following year.

10 Apr, 2013

thanks DD, your OH has good taste!!

thats a point floralhead ~ i wonder if this one likes the cold, it certainly doesnt seem to suffer!

10 Apr, 2013

Note to self. Must by some of this plant. Maybe it could br one that will survive in my gatden and not die on me sticki x

10 Apr, 2013

Sorry. Hit wrong keys. Can spell really. Even if i cant garden lol x

10 Apr, 2013

hello patti! i hope you get some ~ its amazing isnt it! the flowers are standing up a bit more now ~ maybe they needed it to be a bit above freezing for that!!

not sure i can spell or garden!!

10 Apr, 2013

Oh u can sticki, on both counts. I have seen pictures. Going to be warm the weekend. Whoopee x

10 Apr, 2013

i hope it is!

the thing about gardening is you can keep changing things so it doesnt look too disastrous! [also photos hide some things] but there are so many things i havent got right!

10 Apr, 2013

You're right, Sticki!
Oops. Lol.

10 Apr, 2013

right about so many things i havent got right mouldy!

10 Apr, 2013

Wot? Lol.

10 Apr, 2013

i was thinking you were commenting on what i said in the comment from me, just above where you say 'you're right sticki!'

10 Apr, 2013

My fault, now I read back, for not clarifying my reference.
What I SHOULD have said was that you WERE correct in correcting me with regards to Balconey's favourite flowers.
Clear as mud? Good. Lol.
I went back to check & by the time I returned & added my comment the conversation had moved on & I made the mistake of not reading posted comments first.
Mouldy makes classic beginner's mistake No.82! Lol.

12 Apr, 2013

no problem at all! i think it fun how different conversations weave in and out on these blogs

12 Apr, 2013

It's a very interesting site in that regard, isn't it?
Weave-like.

14 Apr, 2013

Do other sites not do the same?

14 Apr, 2013

I haven't a clue, as I lucked onto this one at 1st attempt, imagining that all folk would talk about would be plants & in quite a sober fashion, only to find to my delight that they were just being people, who discussed not only plants, but many of whom had a sense of humour, youself included, naturally. :-)

14 Apr, 2013

not sure i could stay if it was only sober plants ~ my attention span is not that good!!!

14 Apr, 2013

Oh, I'd still have joined, but have visited only for info. :-)

15 Apr, 2013

yes ~ same here!

15 Apr, 2013

A question just struck me...do Goy members sell seeds & so on to other members?

20 Apr, 2013

I have been given seeds and plants, there are some very generous people on here.

21 Apr, 2013

Surreylad has said he'll send me a dicentra, if mine doesn't come up this year. Top banana, that's what he is!
I was asking, as I'd much sooner buy from Goy members, as they've put more into the process than some big company, if you see what I mean.

22 Apr, 2013

Good point! Yes surrey lad is very kind and generous, also helpful with advice.

I wonder if it would be worth asking on a blog or maybe a question?

22 Apr, 2013

Reckon I'll do just that, once Goy sorts out my faves, then I can get organised.
I'll put it as a question, though, as that'll get a larger response.
Actually, my dicentra may be coming through, but I'm just not sure yet, so will have to wait & see, while repelling slugs.
I'm so excited.
Probably a weed! Lol.

23 Apr, 2013

Dicentras always seem to surprise me! I have lilies coming up too!

23 Apr, 2013

Mine, sadly, have yet to break the surface. :-(
Nearly forgot...my faves has been fixed! :-)

23 Apr, 2013

i have some lilies about to flower ~ but L Beetle has found them too ~ got to keep a look out now!!

good news about the faves!!

23 Apr, 2013

The. L-beetle will probably drown, up here, long before any shoots appear. Lol.
How soon, after they do appear, does the beetle turn up?
Yeah, I'm chuffed about my faves. Now, when I get some time, I'll chase up all those I wanted to add & get things organized, finally.

24 Apr, 2013

serve them right if they drown ~ they are nasty ~ they seem to turn up as soon as its warm ~ they might eat lilies almost as soon as they start to shoot? Just watch out for them ~ they are bright red!

24 Apr, 2013

I read a blog by Scottish on the common soldier beetle, which looks similar, but it's actually a friend to gardeners.
Very interesting.

24 Apr, 2013

i think there is a picture on my photos of a pair of lily beetles!

24 Apr, 2013

I'll check it out after I've dealt with my 'correspondence'. Lol.
Only had to chase the foxes once & only found a few slugs all night.
The weather was mild & it only began to rain lightly just after 6am.
Bored, so the L-beetle will stop my patrol skills going rusty. Lol.

25 Apr, 2013

were you out all night on slug patrol?

25 Apr, 2013

Three nights running. Tonight's the fourth.
The slugs are predictable...I have a blitz & there's nothing for about 15 mins (Except for last night. Very quiet.), then more turn up.
The foxes will turn up any time after 10pm (Often several times a night, except last night, when they only made one attempt) 'til daybreak, so were talking about 8hrs, which is why I call it nightshift. Lol.

25 Apr, 2013

You have to get the award for the most committed/dedicated gardener!

25 Apr, 2013

Nah, I bet there's others doing the same.
The difference is they don't want to be labelled as nuts, whereas I don't care! Lol.

26 Apr, 2013
