Thank you Scottish. My neighbour brought a few Camellias from his last house, and had no room for this one..I was more than happy for him to give me one of them..:o)

Thanks Val,it's the only shaded I have,so the Heucheras and Camellia do well there..as does the Pieris, although this year,it is lacking in flowers..but plenty new red growth appearing now..hoping late frost doesn't get to them..

Wow look at that it's lovely ! mine has tiny little flowers this year :o(

Thanks Amy..I wonder why yours hasn't flowered as well this year? I must say, neither of my Pieris have flowered this year.. first time ever...but they look healthy enough..:o)

I agree, it does look really happy - must be in an ideak spot in the right soil!
:-)

Thanks Chris,I have never tested my soil,so just bunged lots of ericaceous compost in,for the Camellia and Pieris, when planting..and top them up each year...other stuff don't seem to mind it..I have two Roses there, plus Heucheras..which I just give ordinary multi compost..they have to take it or leave it :o)

Trial and error is part of being a gardener,I think Chris..and mostly, things have worked,..if not, back to the drawing board, and learn from my mistakes :o)..no such thing as the perfect gardener..or is there? :o)

Ours flowered this year Bloomer - moved it just outside house dumped in a load of my own rotting fruit mulch and ericaceous and it has done loads better even with the long hard winter . Yours a lot bigger than mine looks great

Bloomer, my Camelia is very poor at the moment...full of brownedged buds... do you reckon a top dressing of ericacious will help it.Got some other stuff round it aswell shall I clear them away and leave soil clear? C'mon Bloomer, give me your expert knowledge :-)))))

Glad yours is doing well this year,Paul..it's surprising how soon they pick up,if they like the position and well fed with the right stuff .. .just like us :o).It started life in a pot,but it did much better planted out..and it has been there about eight years now,so yours will soon get bigger..just needs a bit of time to get settled in,I guess..

Val,I am definitely no expert..just a trial and error gardener, but I got lots of info from GoY,or books.I think everyone gets the problem of brown buds, down to frost ,and then morning sun on them..a lot of mine were the same, but mainly at the top, where the elements catch them..so it's not down to something you have done..it just happens..I pick mine off before they drop off,as I hate looking at them..and a top up around the base with Ericaceous compost will help..if you look closely, you might see lots of fine roots at the surface,as the rain washes the soil away..I try to keep them covered, but on the other hand they need lots of water,so it doesn't dry out..especially in the summer ..when we get some.! Also,I have just given mine a liquid feed, with an acid loving product..to help green the foliage up ,as some of it was yellowing a bit.and I will do it periodically over the next few months...if and when I remember....sorry it seems so long winded, but you did ask ! good luck :o))

You must have really green fingers Sandra, I have 2 and not a flower between them this year. Maybe they need bigger pots? :-)
24 May, 2013
Mine is much better now it's in the ground,Ba..although maybe the soil has run out of goodness,or as you say, might need a bigger pot..plenty water is needed,as they soon dry out..maybe when it rains,it isn't reaching the roots?
24 May, 2013
I'll try re-potting, but if they don't buck up, I'm sending them to you for a little r&r lol:-))
24 May, 2013
Will you be taking out a interest free loan then,Ba? you will need one, with the cost of postage these days..but if you feel you must,it will be made very welcome...but it will have to stay with me as it's foster parent...so as long as you read the small print, for terms and conditions ??? :o)) x
