The butterflys love them ! we have an empty haulage contractors yard near us and Buddleias have seeded all over it , it is one mass they have smothered the ground so quickly !

Fab picture Janey, wow!!I pulled mine up as it was just a little TOOOOO happy & could not stop it from spreading its little seeds everywhere........too many blooms to stay ahead. Maybe i should have cut it right down & kept it small. What do you do???

I know what you mean....Doon...these are all self-sets...but I either dig them out in Winter or snap the branches off as they're growing if theyre too crowded or growing the wrong way.......this one will come out though this Winter.

You can buy the smaller varieties that don't take over the garden. We have a deep purple one in our other garden and I used to cut it right back to about two feet in the winter. The butterflies do love the flowers.

Yes, the domesticated ones are daintier with a range of stunning colours.....I used to have Black Knight years ago which was maybe the same as yours Lindak and there's a fabulous cerise one too I'd like.......maybe next year....:o)

Nice pic. I currently have a Black Knight in a pot and it seems healthy enough but all the spires seem to dry up and go brown very quickly. The plant is still giving off new buds but what am I doing wrong?
Why might they be doing this? We've had a tremendous amount of rain recently or could it be the pot is too small? It's not a big plant as yet but I was gutted as I really like the look of these plants and have bought a butterfly house to go with it.
I do intend planting it in the garden in the next few weeks but any ideas meantime for the drying of the spires Janey?

They seem to be very short lived flowers Oddbillie, and if in full sun....like my white one go brown on a daily basis.....I am clipping them off every day as the seeds will be everywhere. Maybe yours would be happier in the garden, but if I were you I think I would move the pot to half shade, some of mine are on the other side of the garden, the purple ones, and are lasting a lot longer. Also give it a feed too, especially if you have new flower buds forming, a lot of the strength will be going into these. Hope this helps a bit, right now I'm off into the garden with the secateurs....:o)

Thanks Janey. I'm actually going to try the 2 suggestions and move it from its pot into the garden in partial shade by the butterfly house. This is all a learning curve but a really enjoyable one at that!
Thanks again and I'll let you know how it pans out.
