Goodbye my friends. New Avatar & Parrots

My pheasants are gone. I have not seen them for weeks.

There has been a lot of gunfire on the nearby farmland lately so I fear the worst.
So I’m changing my avatar from…..

….to my most successful indoor plant Impatiens niamniamensis Congo Cockatoo (so why do they call it the Parrot Plant?)

She’s becoming a little unruly now, standing 2 feet above the pot. She outgrew the kitchen window some time ago but it will soon be lined with new babies. I am about to remove some leaves and start a new family. They are so simple to propagate.

I took her out into the garden a few weeks ago to give her some fresh air.

They are so colourful and easy to grow. I had mine in exchange for some old fences which I was going to throw away.

What a bright flower! I've never seen this before. I can understand the reason for the common name, though. :-))

Poor pheasants, they only existed for "sport", such beautiful birds. At least they enjoyed being in your garden for a while.
You still have the bird theme then, with your "parrots" or rather cockatoos.
They certainly are colourful and unusual to my eyes.

Love your parrot plant, I had one but alas it died on me, I got mine from a second hand shop from an old lady it grew big like yours then died on me. Sorry to hear about your Pheasants.

19 Nov, 2009

It probably won't grow any more (The Parrot, Sue!!!) which is why it is time to start again. I still have another one to smile at us in the kitchen while the new ones grow.
There's still hope for the pheasants Morgana.

Under Scottish law they will probably refuse to accept they are English!

20 Nov, 2009

If they were Brummy ones they wouldn't take 'no' for an answer !! Lol What're the Norfolk ones like ??? ;~))

Oo-er...just seen this blog! Are my pheasants yours, Ponty??? Hope so but have grave doubts. Mine eat porage oats for breakfast and play the bagpipes...

;-)

24 Nov, 2009

Thought you had seen this B. That's what made me laugh so much when Ponty popped up on yours asking !! lol I now have the most wonderful picture of a Scottish pheasant in my head !! LOL ;~)

25 Nov, 2009

O.K. Can't be mine then. Mine preferred a balanced diet of Norfolk Dumplings and Welshcakes. THEY weren't very musical either!!

25 Nov, 2009

Well honestly, Ponty! If they're full of Norfolk Dumplings no wonder they never made it to Aberdeenshire!

;-)

I do hope they come back......

25 Nov, 2009

Oh dear, poor pheasants. They don`t fly very well and are easy targets. I hope they are just lying low. I really like the plant, its so bright and cheerful. :o)

Eddie for the last 3 years we have had a regular Pheasant ,we called him Charlie last year he started bringing his youngster we call him Fred , this year Charlie hasn't come we don't know if something has happened to him or if he was just very old ( he had huge spurs ) Fred has continued coming and is here every day ............

3 Dec, 2009

To have even one come into my garden would make me smile forever. You are both so very lucky :~)))

3 Dec, 2009
