the start of a willow orb....

Autumn is here at last and with the nursery and the tipi camp tidied up its time to chop everything back in the garden….i have loads of willow which has given me a plentyfull supply of weaveable wood. To take advantage of a few visiting young uns a plan was hatched……
enter chris laura richard dave and jack….
we have tried to make 4 strong hoops….it turns out they could have been stronger ….
having only made small willow sculpture before there were moments when i thought it was all going to collapse…
chris laura and richard were all keen to help..Richard in the front is on leave from a tour in Afghanistan…he’s gone back now till february…:-(this is chris my nephew and his girlfriend laura…
we tried to lock the four rings together to make some sort of ball shape…
as we are in wales it decided it was going to be rugby ball shaped…lol
there were a few hairy moments when we thought it was going to collapse…but we carried on strengthening it with more willow…
as we added the willow we all became more confident with the whole thing….its still a work in progress. but i think it is strong enough now and i have accepted the egg shape…
will do a follow up when we have another go at it….
Sandra :-)

thanks Fran...the thing we learnt from this effort was to make the skeleton as strong as u can..this started life as a football but decided it wanted to be a rugby ball after a few days..it was fun though..

don't think I'd be strong enough to make one, at least one that'd last more than a day! but hope you have/had better luck with the next one you tried
