working in another wounderful garden

Today in stunning weather me and my son david were working in a garden in tenby. It is a house that is let to disabled people and their families. It has been adapted to make their lives easier, and even had a lift and a pool with a hoist.
We chopped back crocosmia and red hot pokers from the grass bed.
David cut the grass in the meadow garden which has a lovely seat made on site by a friend.
The garden is very sheltered and plants like canna lily and ginger lily thrive here.
the centre piece of the garden is a dragon hand carved from stone.
the lady that runs the house and garden set up the Harriet Davis trust in honour of her daughter who was disabled and sadly died young. she now runs three houses to offer a little time off for other children and their families.

It's great that there are places like this for people in need. and it's wonderful that the garden is also given some considedation. To me it's as important as the house in helping people feel better.

Are the residents able to help, or do they just enjoy it?

My wife (a nurse) works mainly in an ordinary-looking house, in a normal-looking house, in a normal street. This house, however, is a respite home for children with severe needs (many of them have terminal illnesses). She accompanies some of the better ones to a special school all day, but others cannot attend. They take them on outings, e.g. to the supermarket to buy the weekly menus. Recently, they have been out buying containers and bulbs for the front door and rear garden. Firstly, I couldn't believe that my wife would enter a garden centre to look for plants (she usually just wants the cafes/restaurants, lol). Secondly, perhaps they could create a lovely outdoor space for next "summer"? Hmmm, you've got me thinking now!
