Creating a caterpillar

As some if you know we hosted our son David’s wonderland inspired wedding a few weeks ago. The blog I wrote about the wedding included a few pictures of the catterpillar the bride Cyanne wanted to create. I thought you might like to see the process we went through.
The boys dug a hole and concreted some scaffold poles in place.
Lots of friends and family help with the build.
With the scaffold poles secured with concrete a length of old chain link fencing was wrapped around to help form the shape.
The my Oh Julian added some old chicken wire to create some definition and tyres to form the tail end….much discussion took place about its legs…how many? How big? What to use? Once we had all agreed on golf clubs it was off to the boot sales to find some.
Then the fun began…covering the whole thing in mud and then adding a layer of cement to weather proof him.
Every one had fun doing this bit!
I was truly amazed when I saw the face….
Cyanne used masonry paint to bring him to life.
A cousin if mine offered to make him a hookah pipe but couldn’t get here to see him before he made it. So we used a Henry Hoover so he could get to grips with the size we needed.
We all loved his hookah pipe when it arrived with days to go!
Everyone at the wedding loved him and there were lots of pics of people posing with him including this one of my new daughter in law…
My nephew produced smoke bombs which worked so well.
So now we have a ten foot hookah smoking catterpillar at the top of the garden!
This was the indpiration that started it all off.
And Grows On You gets the blame for the whole project as that’s where I discovered Noseypotter….
Thanks for reading…?

Thank you...I have so enjoyed taking the pictures along the way. The only part I played was rooting out the old chain link fence from the brambles oh and making tea...lots of tea...

He has certainly added something special to the top of your garden Sandra, someone obviously knew what they were doing thank goodness, the end result is fantastic, love all the pics of everyone doing their bit, especially slapping the mud onto the frame, you're right it looks a lot of fun..

Brilliant - the best sculpture I have ever seen on Goy.
A community effort, and never a cross word.
How about entering for Chelsea Flower Show next year ?

What a shame! Two more golf clubs and that caterpillar would have been able to play out the whole course.

I dont know how non professional people enter for Chelsea, worth making some enquiries. Dont hide your constructive talent at the end of your garden, share it with everyone !
Show Diarmid Gavin there are other geniuses about.

Sandra, found this a really good read. :-). Loved seeing the different stages. The imagination that went into it and can understand why the guests of the wedding loved it.
