this weekend was spent making mud pies….well thats what it reminded me of.

i have been picking Noseypotters brains as i love all his concrete artwork. with his help (thanks NP) and a lot of help from my kids (well it is mothers day) i now have the start of my concrete settee.

the site is at the top of my garden so everything had the be pushed up in the wheel barrows. sand cement water cement mixer…..it is set around the bonfire site. it will be better than soggy car seats or up turned buckets….

first i linned up some old car seats. then i striped all the foam off them. covered them in hardcore and the net off my old tunnel then the fun began.

its got a long way to go but i’m so pleased with the progress and the help..;-))

so far so good..i’m so pleased with the progress but i’ve now run out of sand helpers and energy. i know its got a long way to go, but its been soooo much fun. this last pic is the view from up at the top of the garden.

Brilliant! I hope you do something fun to decorate it - I'm thinking Gaudi-inspired mosaic!

thanks for your coments..i wish NP was here to help....Madmum i like the idea of mosaic...family iseas include a snake all around the top...gothic thrones...i loved the process of putting on the cement and moulding it with my hands. this is just the first layer. need time to think where to go next...

What a brilliant idea Sandra, and if Nosey is helping it will be terrific...........

all this refrence to NP is making me nervous. the main point to this is to end up with something to sit on when we have a bonfire. it is also a place at the very top of the garden where i can hide from the world when i want to.
i think i want it to green over and look like old stone but the other half of me would like to make it more...fun....time will tell...

I can't wait to see it finished Sandra :o)

Looking well looking forwould to seeing the finished touch.

Wow! What a lot of hard work! You are inspired!!! Actually, it might get me going on making a couple of things. My late grandad made some concrete flower pots for my mum which she still uses. I wouldn't mind making some stepping stones........ Hmmmmmm......

Good luck with the finishing of it!!

well done, sandra, I use to make my own flower tubs.
2 cardboard boxes, one a little smaller than the other, put a layer of concrete on the bottom of the larger box, then put the smaller box inside, I then put a few not very heavy stones inside the small box, then pour some concrete down the sides of the box and just leave till well set, remove the cardboard and there you have a tub. you can paint it or just leave to weather. you can also put some natural yogurt onto the concrete, that will encourage bacteria and make it look like you've had it for ages.

Hi Daff its so easy to do that. i made a few just like that a few years ago. i like to make birthday and christmas presents that was one. another was flowers made from sheets of aluminium off an old caravan, another was concrete mushrooms, cast in hole in the garden lined with old sheets. my family are use to it by now...lol

as for the yogurt coating ...it works better if you can stop the dog licking it off...

What a project.....you must have used such a lot of cement, cant wait to see the finished article, clever you.

What an unusual idea. It looks like something medieval Sandra. You are very adventurous , taking on such projects. Looking forward to progress updates. I presume you are both busy now with the gardening as well as the nursery. I've done quite a bit, but it's on and off due to the weather in last week or so. Hopefully a mainly dry week this coming one.I had a couple of soakings last week!

it is a bit mad Paul...lol my garden is huge. when i make anything for out there it cant be small or it would get lost. i'm not sure where to go with it next.....you can sit on it now and we are so busy it will have to wait a while, but that will give me time to think. Madmum suggested gaudi mosaic which i like and medieval is another good idea. the whole family are now comming up with ideas including mirror mosaic as the mirrors would reflect the bonfire.....
as for gardening work i am designing a garden for the local hospital which i hope to put in place during the easter holidays as my yougest son is going to help. its a 30 meter grassy bank outside the day care centre. people go there to socialise and get treatments whille thier there. its the view out of a big window so i'm trying to give it colour all year round. happy gardening ;-))

youl be fine sandra . remember to scratch the last coat and to wet the settee before you put more cement on at a 2 sand to 1 cement and plastisiser or it will blow and youl have thin layers instead of a solid object . its worth wrapping it in wet cloths and polythene to give it integraty . looking good so far . you realiseyou can get cement dye on ebay of lots of colours and wear gloves or it will ruin your hands .wish i could help as in hands on but ill do what i can from here . for about £7 you can get a cement mixer from b and q you put in a drill .put the cement and water in first . the mixture is the most importent . if you want it to green up mix a little top soil in with your last layer of cement and also you can get someone to wee in a bucket or most things bio degradable .it kind of looks like an upturned set of false teeth at the moment . if you want a more cemetricle shape you can banga peg in and get some string up to your seat and mark round the end of the string in an arc . anyway good luck sandra and dont worry it will be fine . it looks dry you mite have to get a grinder and put some lines in it to make a better key with the next layer . take care bye for now x .
