i do a little garden design and build which i love. the last two days i have spent with my friend Paul doing a garden at our local hospital. 30 meters long between 3 and 6 foot high and a 45% slope. full of builders rubbish under a few trees. we knew it was going to be hard.

we cleared all the annual weeds as the soil was very wet it was easier than i thought. then we dug tthe whole bank over. it looked so much better.

i’ve used plants that will be big enough to fight the wild area behind. magalanica fuchsias that will be 6 foot in a couple of years, variagated griselinia, and different coloured phormium. this is the view people have when they visit the hospital for treatments. so i want it to look good all year. the variagation on the griselinia and the phormiums will lift the garden in the winter.
i’ve use juniper ‘prince of wales’ to grow down over the horrible concrete wall. i will also be planting ivy and painting the concrete a warm terracotta next week.
today we bought an lovely red acer and a sambucus which i could not resist when i went to pick up 7 lovely phormiums from barringtons garden centre.

this is Paul looking tired .lol
next week when we paint the concrete wall i will also add a few geraniums and ferns.

What a great project and some excellent planting ideas. Which Sambucas? Was it the black one? I love them, just sorry I haven't got space but I'm very often tempted to get one and squeeeeeeze it in!

What a great job you've done there Sandra, it will look absolutely wonderful.
I have to say I thought Ssmbucas was a drink with a coffee bean in it which you had to set alight - shows how much I know!

It's nice to have pleasant surroundings when you don't feel well. It helps I think. You're doing a great job Sandra.
