A lucky shot!

I was up early this morning – I was having new windows fitted to the front of the house. Up early, tired and grumpy – wind whistling through the house – well more a gently breeze really, I could not summon up the energy to do very much. Having decided to spend the day sitting on my backside doing very little until the windows were finished and I could get the curtain rails etc back up – I got the guilty ‘you can’t sit here all day’ feelings.
I didn’t want to start anything that was going to take me the best part of the day as I was hoping to catch some zzzzz’s after dinner. I decided to cut back one of the honeysuckles on the side fence. They were really in need of a good tidying up. Job was done and I took the opportunity to paint this section of the fence whilst I was there. So trellis was off and brushed down the fence with a hard brush to take of the last of the remaining debris from the honeysuckle.
Working away up the ladder – health and safety was not being observed, I should add – the ladder was slowly sinking into the soil and I was trying to balance myself, the ladders and the tin of paint with one hand and trying to paint with the other. Serves me right for being too lazy for not putting a plank underneath to steady me!!
Just as I was about to put brush to wood – something caught my eye – at first I thought it was a twig that I missed and as I brought my hand up to flick it away – it moved!! It flew off….what was that I thought? On further inspection there must have been 2 of them and this little chappy was happy just to remain stock still until I had finished taking a couple of shots on my phone.
Now can you imagine me up the ladder trying to balance everything and get a good shot at the same time? – it was a tricky shot but somebody had to try take it and luckily no harm came to me or the bee! He did finally fly off to meet his buddy.
I’m no good with insects or the like so if anyone cares to tell me what kind of bee this is – it will save me comparing pictures on google…..thank you for reading!

Hi Scottish do not know what type of bee (might be a hoverfly) this is but its good news that they are around in your garden.I expect they were sheltering amongst the now gone honeysuckle Lol. Take care when climbing ladders now.

Great description, Scottish, I could just imagine the ladder slowly sinking (I've done that!) - really made me laugh :) Can't help with identification, I'm afraid, but great close up.

Love your days adventure Angie!!!! Could actually picture it quite well. Thanks for the chuckle and next time you'll know to embrace that ' decided to spend the day sitting on my backside doing very little' feeling. ;)))))

Thank you...fly it is then :). Since that seems to the concensus of opinion.
Yeh that would have been a great shot....me almost toppling over..a bit of slap stick comedy:). I was more worried about dropping the phone in the paint, there is already a cigarette lighter in there that fell out my pocket last time I used it!
