If only I had chrome to polish...

Its a week now since the apple tree blew over and I fully expected OH to get the chian saw out. But whilst I have been busy doing other things [quilting really] he has not cut the grass, trimmed the hedges nor cooked tea. Youngest girl, Toria has been chief cook and bottle washer: and a brilliant job she has done too.

I asked about the tree and I got a grunt. In fact for the last month he has been in the garage more than he has been in the house. I do know why and I will show you a few photos of the latest project.

It is a BSA 650 twin Golden Flash

He has done a little sympathetic restoration but the panniers are new and were black so he has stripped them down and re-sprayed them.

He doesn’t like to over restore and he does ride them regularly. He is waiting for new wheel rims as the chrome is very badly pitted and the rest of the chrome else where is very good.

Now if I had chrome would I get as much attention?

answers on the eye lid of an ant ;o)

Oh yea I know exactly how you feel. My husband (he is no longer with us) had a 500 BSA twin motorbike, which he called "Betsy, and she got far more attention than me. Maybe we should open our throttle and make more noise? But it was all worth it as I felt the wind through my hair, and we zoomed along free as a bird.

That is one of the best bikes I've ever seen. I wouldn't mind a ride on that myself, and I don't mean Pillion! And while you've been quilting, I've been crocheting and knitting! :) Thanks for showing us the bike. I love it!

It's very shiny isn't it.
Your husband probably feels the same about this bike as I do about my plants lol ... Sometimes Beryl has to wait for her dinner because I am watering my Fuchsias :D

Your husband seems to neglect the garden. I neglect my car. I think I had it cleaned last ... ? can't remember ... has it ever been cleaned ?
I am not a gadget/machine/motor person but I can understand people with obsessions :D

Not chrome, but silver rivets! for your black leather riding boots & matching leather jacket -

5 Aug, 2017

Huh! Mine spends much of his time programming on his machine, if I 'interrupt' I get, 'Oh yes dear' or 'OK, Dear' but then he carries on regardless.

If mine & yours should ever meet they'd likely both move into the garage & 'thuse together - mine also is a bike enthusiast.

I knew he could be obsessive and it is lovely to know there are many 'other halves ' out there doing their own things too.

at classic/vintage meeting us wives often get together and talk would you believe about bikes!

5 Aug, 2017

Sure, why not? But it's not REALLY about the bikes. It's the camaraderie, getting together, making new friends.

5 Aug, 2017

My husband has a very important role in our house...he stops our sofa from flying away ;)

5 Aug, 2017

Guess who's been admiring it!! Colin says that is some bike.! Keep up the polishing etc.

5 Aug, 2017

Mine knew what it was straight away!

5 Aug, 2017

That's a cracker. Boys and their toys eh.

5 Aug, 2017

It is pretty stunning

5 Aug, 2017

Nat, I never realised that was what my OH was doing! Maybe I should be more tolerant in future...

5 Aug, 2017

A stunning bike,nevertheless,Sbg...but I think he is not in the minority, with wanting to keep it pristine..our car gets almost the same attention.! but,in his favour,he also does housework to the same standard, which he quite likes..and who am I to complain? gives me more time in the garden :o)

6 Aug, 2017

Exactly Steragram....we wouldn't want to go home to a missing sofa now would we :)

My other half just about does the grass, then that is it. I am even looking at buying an electric chainsaw as the petrol one is way to heavy for me and the last tree (Whitebeam planted under electric pole by previous owners) I got fed up of waiting for him to chop for 6 months that I took a hand saw and did it myself. He is a workaholic and where we are self employed and work from home, he is even out there as I type this on a Sunday afternoon :-). the Bike does look fantastic.

6 Aug, 2017

Boys eh? Still at least you knew where he was and while it might not be my cup of tea I can see why he likes it. My OH has also been incarcerated in the garage the last week or so. He's moving his train sets from up in the loft into the garage, but first the garage needs lagging. Where is the car going to be kept? Don't ask...

6 Aug, 2017

I can understand his reluctance. The bike looks fabulous.

6 Aug, 2017

Lol Waddy - bet he hates them being called train sets...

6 Aug, 2017

I agree with Linda ... what a fabulous bike. My OH is into sport ... enough said! :o(

6 Aug, 2017

thank you. it is a fab bike and the cars live on the drive. My eldest brother has a spare bedroom devoted to his model trains so I fully understand Waddy.
True he is always in the garage and whilst he spends plenty on them he doesn't frequent the local pub. He is not into sport at all though he does like cycling [push bike] and sailing.

6 Aug, 2017

The bike looks fantastic, I hope he is going to take it to a show. That's half the fun of these things, talking bikes to other deprived men who haven't got one as good as yours (reminds me of something else, but I am much too delicate to mention that!). At least when they are occupied doing something like that (my OH, it's fishing) you know they are not misbehaving!!

Forgot to say NAT that I loved your description of your husband's job, rang so many bells I was nearly deafened!

6 Aug, 2017

Stera, you are so right!!

:D

we've done lots of shows in the past with the classic cars we've had [1956 Austin A35 for 15 yrs and a 1960 P4 Rover 80 for about 10yrs] but now he tends to do 'classic' bike runs where you meet up for breakfast then have a bimble in the countryside and end up at pub/café/picnic site before setting off home again. similar marques or general classic runs. we have a choice of marques too, BSA, Ariel, Matchless and if we want to a really old Francis Barnett. we still have the rover too. well I have my plants and fabrics but I know who spends the most and its not me :o)

but as said earlier keeps him out of mischief and out the pub :o)

Gosh my dad had one of those, never had a garage so mum had to put up with newspaper and rags in the kitchen, not to mention the oily smell, my hubby would drool over that bike, he used to go fishing in his spare time but the last couple of years he hasn't been, instead when he's at home he's either up in the little bedroom where he has the computer, thats ok, or in the kitchen sitting at the worktop reading, oh thats not bad you'd think, however we only have a small kitchen, you try using it with a husband sitting there with his head stuck in a book, especially one who gets narky if you disturb him, one who insists he cannot read unless he's sat at the worktop, I kid you not it can be a nightmare, especially if the book is so good he does not want to put it down....Then people say" don't you want him to retire properly" CRIKEY NO !!!.......

8 Aug, 2017

Lincs, I sympathise with your kitchen 'problem' - mine insists on putting his laptop on top of the breadbin, he's sat on a chair in front of it which is a pain cos that's right in front of the fridge (he claims he's watching the meal cook).

8 Aug, 2017

I'm not really into motorbikes, but I have to say that bike is a stunner!

8 Aug, 2017

when its really cold in the garage he has been known to come into the kitchen/conservatory. items that have been sprayed hang in the conservatory or greenhouse to dry . I have always been used to the smell of oil, petrol, fibreglass resin and various polishes + waxes as I grew up with a 'hands on' dad and 3 older brothers. I used to help strip down car engines and rebuild them from about the age of 10 so I have grown up with it.

I get fed up with the splashes of oily swarfega that is left on the taps after he has cleaned himself up :o)))

9 Aug, 2017

My OH is a mechanic....I feel your pain !

9 Aug, 2017

Our first form of transport was a BSA bike. Loved it. No helmets in those days either.

I knew/know nothing about bikes but I always knew when my OH was coming home when I heard the bike in the distance.

Your husband's bike looks great.

(Aren't daughters lovely!)

9 Aug, 2017

when he used to work shifts I could here him coming into the village. buy the time he was in the kettle was boiled.

he wouldn't go on any of the old ones on a morning shift as kicking it off would wake the neighbours.

9 Aug, 2017

Seaburn I can remember when I was a kid my dad had a massive bike and a sidecar that was for two adults and two children, we used to go visit relatives in Stoke on Trent, leaving home at 3.30am, I was always the one to ride pillion so it was my job to help him push to the end of the road and round the corner to the hill so as we didn't make a noise and disturb the neighbours, happy days, we all had to help dad when he was working on any thing so I grew up hating engines, lol.....

9 Aug, 2017

SBG, Isn't it funny how you have an OH so like the menfolk in your family - must be the swarfega, lol

10 Aug, 2017

perhaps the saying that you chose your husband because he reminds you of your dad is true then OMG :o))))

10 Aug, 2017

Maybe it was the oily rags that swung it for you :)

11 Aug, 2017

..... or the goggles!! :O)

13 Aug, 2017

My OH and I love a motor bike, I am always taking pics of them when in France... would love a ride, that is some bike!!

20 Aug, 2017

Agree DD2. Loved the BSA and was a pillion passenger for years WITHOUT A HELMET!!

Never thought a motor bike could look beautiful and sinister until Older Son brought a BMW home.

20 Aug, 2017

we used to have a BMW RS 75 boxer that was a bit of a beast twas a black one too. that was BC [before children].

20 Aug, 2017

Those were the days......never ridden on one, always fancied owning a Harley Davidson many moons ago!!

21 Aug, 2017

we used to have a Harley Road King tourer. Its engine was massive 1,500cc [stage two bore] now that was a beast but such a comfy seat .
