Rose Angel Face

Just a quick blog about this rose. It was raised by a GoY member if memory serves me correctly. I planted it about 2013/14 and I have been delighted with it. It has such glossy leaves and the stems are a rich red when young. It can be a bit lax but I do like it very much.
The buds are tight and show colour early on. They are a lovely shape too.
This is the shrub today, masses of flowers and buds to come. It flowers all summer too
The close up of the flower; it is also lightly scented and does well in a vase.

It's beautiful. I can't remember a GoY member raising a plant, I wonder who it was … ?
(You don't need to answer that lol it's just me wondering)

If I could remember I'd let them know what a beauty it is. I do know Barbara [Spritzhenry] also had one and it was because of her interest that I took one.

Hmm...it's not like the 'Angel Face' that I am familiar with. That's a lavender, richly fragrant floribunda with ruffled, semidouble blooms, and satin finish foliage.

That's the working name it came with plus a code number. wonder if it has been renamed then if there is already one catalogued with that name.

I have been in touch with Barbara [Spritzhenry] and this is what she says:
'' rose is called ‘Angelface’ or ‘Engelsgesicht’. It wasn’t bred in the UK, it came from a breeder in Germany. I can’t recall his name, but he couldn’t think what to call it, so the GOY member (Rosefriend) who lives out there asked if she could hold a competition of GOY members. He agreed and the winner got a rose as a prize! Then another member, whose name escapes me, asked if she could buy a rosebush. He agreed to release 20 bushes as Angelface wasn’t going to be available in the UK. The first members who wanted one had to send a message to her and you and I were lucky enough to get one. I agree, I think it is a fabulous rose, healthy and with gorgeous blooms.''
She had done a blog about it

A really lovely rose! Shame it's not for sale here in the UK!

I was sorry when Spritzhenry left Goy. I always enjoyed her posts and still wonder how she is when there is flooding.

She is keeping well, I email her regularly Stera. I think she still posts on another garden forum. I miss her photos too.
