The Birth of a Star - an Exotic Star.

As some of you know I bought a few ‘sale’ plants and one was this Amaryillis. Reduced from £7.99 to £2.00 it would brighten my work space.
So once in its pot and given a little warmth and light it started to grow very well. About 5mm during the day but a whopping 21mm over night.
At first I thought it was blind as the growth looked to be all leaf but the tips fattened up and there were 4; yes 4 flower stems.
I had to bring the plant home as I am not at work this week as my girls are on half term holiday. So on to the kitchen window sill with better light than at work. The buds have continued to swell.
Last night I noticed the anthers were hanging out of the barely opened flower and this was intriguing as anthers often develop as the flower matures.
Most of today I have been in the garden or in the greenhouse dodging the hail showers. So what a lovely surprise when I came in at 3pm to sort out the casserole for tea.
The Exotic Star is born.
I think I like it, I am not really sure yet as I tend to prefer flowers that are not stripy. What do you think about it?

I love Amaryllis & this one is sooo lovely! They do grow very, very fast. I'm waiting on my seedling Amaryllis to flower, no sign of any buds as yet even though some of the bulbs, after 4 years, are as big as those that cost you a tenner at Christmas!

I think it's a nice change from the plain ones :o) Pitty your work colleagues will miss it. - but then if they are like the ones I had, they would not notice it anyway. lol. It's very nice.

they didnt notice the white one. how you can miss a plant nearly 2 1/2 foot tall with huge flowers beggars belief. But thats my work colleagues for you. They wont miss me either unless the need a clean cup. Ha ha

Love it SBG it does look exotic :) The stripes break up the colour nicely. What energy to grow so quickly !
