Knitting a coat for a Chicken

I’m knitting a coat for a chicken,
What? I hear you cry,
She’s lost it, She’s mad,
No its not that bad
Listen I’ll tell you why.

Donna asked if anyone could knit
She’s getting some chucks,
who are down on their luck,
I said I will help!
I’ll knit them a pelt to keep their tummies warm

So i’m knitting a coat for a chicken
I hope they like the colour green
Its all i have left after knitting a vest,
i’ve had to use my brain,
no pattern you see so i hope it will be ok

So you see my friends
I’m not going mad
Just qui-et-ly insane!!!!

!

With thanks to Donna for letting me use her photos

Great poem, Sewing. Anyone who can knit a sweater for a hen with no pattern has my respect!

Very thoughtful and clever. Those are some lucky chickens :) What happen to their feathers? I have a friend who crochets and has chickens, I 'll have to share this w her.

fantastic now i need to ask do you have a pattern for said coats i have many chickens lossing their back feathers due to having a few to many keen cockrels and id like to knit them jackets to give their backs some protection from the elements and the boys, im a keen knitter my hens will be eternally gratefull.
thanks Lorna

I think you are a wise woman. I’d love to purchase one of your sweaters. My dearest hen, Goldie, is almost naked due to an over vigorous rooster who insists he loves her. I have gone so far as to put a Kotex pad on her back and held it in place with a tensor bandage. A knitted sweater would be much nicer. I think you have a thing there, girl, Start a business.
