Wild Flowers to make you smile!

I recently went on a stroll in the countryside to seek out wild flowers . . . only saw a few, but luckily several butterflies and moths. We saw a chalk hill blue butterfly and a ‘sinister’ moth (silvery wings with scalloped edges).
Earlier today I stopped by a bank of flowers by a main road in Letchworth Garden City, and was amazed by the mass of beautiful flowers still blooming. The colours were fantastic – a mix of bright orange poppies, Cosmos, white and pink Mallow, deep blue, pink and white Cornflowers, and a lovely light blue flower that just might be Verbascum. Obviously many were not actually native wild flowers, but did give a gorgeous display!
Verbascum?
If anyone can identify this pretty white one for me, I’d be very grateful.
28 degrees here today . . . is it hot where you are?!

Yup. :( just as usual.

They are lovely, Sheila. It has been a very hot day, sadly marred by the tragedy at Shoreham Air Show :o(

Thanks Karen, but so sorry it's still so cold for you.
Thank you Shirley - but very sorry to hear there's been a tragedy locally :(

There is no prettier sight than a field of wild flowers, so pleased you took photos of them.

It has been roasting here Sheila, but storms are on the way....:(( those are beautiful wild flower banks, I think the blue flower may be Larkspur. We've been lucky here too with banks of poppies and marguerites, beautiful for us and great for the pollinators....

Many thanks Chris and Janey . . . and thank you too for the ID Janey!

So very pretty Sheila. I have not seen such a wonderful display of "wildflowers since I have left Europe.
We have pleasant temperatures in mid 20's but still not rain. 3 months and no rain, not even a drizzle. I will have to learn the rainmaking ritual dance and send memo to all my friends: We desperately need the rain… Let’s dance! . I can find some feathers around although, the turquoise will be a problem.
Thanks for posting these lovely pictures.

Brushing 30c here and think we had the tail end of your storm Dawn....
the tragedy at the Shoreham air show is awful Shirley, those poor people in the cars.....out of the blue like that
you have to ask if the pilot should have been performing over the road..its not far from my friends
Sheila, those flowes are lovely, they are a natural painting aren't they, make a beautiful canvas
thanks ☺

Thank you Pam, and thank you Klahanie . . . I'd love to see you doing a rain dance. (you must have a great deal of work watering your lovely garden?!)

Its a treat to see them Sheila.xxx

I agree Pam. I'm trying to find out the name of the person from the Council, so that I can get permission to collect seed . . . legally! (I've already got a bit, shhh . . )

Good idea ?

A lovely display,Sheila, and so many varieties too..our Councils are not going to cut verges etc anymore..due to financial restraints, not for a better reason for allowing wildflowers to grow..a lot of locals are up in arms about it..they mustn't like flowers !
Hot and humid here too,for the past two days, around the same time, early evening..with Thunder, lightening and torrential rain..we are in the middle of one now,at 6pm..

Thanks Sandra - I reckon your Council has the right idea! We had a good downpour earlier, which saved me from doing the watering ☺

That verge looks really pretty, so much natural than the parades of flowers one sees in lots of places, it was very hot here on Saturday, windy all day yesterday with a lot of rain last night, beautiful sunrise today but very overcast now, quite chilly as well, I guess the sun went back to bed...

Thanks Sue . . . our weather seems to change 'on a sixpence' doesn't it!

Sheila its flipping bucketing down, a person could get right fedup, all the dry days when I wasn't able to do much and now I am able its not letting me, I have sat here and redesigned the whole garden in my head whist staring at the rain bouncing on my patio, lol, I guess I am catching up on here again..

29 Aug, 2015
No...and another changeable weekend, it seems.

Not bad here - played a croquet match in glorious sunshine this morning, and had supper out on the deck :) (but rain forecast for tomorrow!)
